James Patrick Cahill, 82, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, surrounded by his “girls”. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Cahill. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee O’Malley) for 57 years. Loving father to his three daughters, Maureen Fitzsimons (the late Tom), Susan (Joe) Sullivan and Peggy (Dave) Donovan. Loving Papa to Tommy and Fiona Fitzsimons, Hugh, Quinn and Emmett Sullivan, Michael, Ryan, Emma and Kevin Donovan. Cherished brother of the late John Francis, the late Frank (Pat), the late Mary (the late Tom) Green, Jerome (Rosemary), Mary Ann (Bill) Dotson, and Phil. Jim was a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and a proud member of the O’Malley “outlaws”. A proud graduate of Mount Carmel High School, class of ’59. Jim then enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He then went to college on the GI Bill and graduated from DePaul University in 1976. Jim had a long and successful career in manufacturing at Baron Blakeslee. Jim was a kind and gentle soul, who never hesitated to help others. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. Visitation will be Saturday, June 29th, 9:00am- 11:00am, St. Mary of the Woods, 6955 North Hiawatha Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, with funeral mass to follow at 11am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Mary S. Garza, nee Sauceda, 85, longtime resident of Canaryville and Bridgeport neighborhoods, passed away June 25, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Robert; loving mother of Rosemary Garza (Abel), Elizabeth Garza-Ruiz (Juan Ruiz), Paula Garza, Joseph (Juana "Jenny") Garza, William (Billy) Ford, Yolanda (Wilfredo) Velez, Rudolph Garza Sr. CPD (Megan Aguinaga, fiancé), Judy (Jason) Hammerquist and the late John Robert Sr. (Hilda) Garza and the late Diana Garza; devoted daughter of the late Alvino and Paula Sauceda; cherished grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother of many; dearest sister of Frances Ochoa, the late Pedro Sauceda and the late Gloria Aquinaga; fond aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews. Mary was known for her fiery spirit and the tough love she instilled within her family, which only served to deepen the bonds she shared with them. Despite this tough exterior, she was also described as kind-hearted, sweet and loving by those who knew her best. Her love extended not only to her family and friends but also to animals, whom she cherished dearly. Mary had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly for Cardinals and the Texas Yellow Rose. Her love for country music was evident to all who knew her, with favorites including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash. She found joy in dancing and would often be found twirling to the tunes she held dear. Mary's absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing that she brought light and love into the lives of those around her. Loving father of George CPD (Megan) Panothiocas Irene (Chad) Gibson. Devoted son of the late George and the late Ourania Panothiocas. Proud pappou of Andrew and Patrick Panothiocas, Sophie and Cora Gibson. Cherished brother, uncle, cousin and friend of many. The Drug and Alcohol Section of the Professional Counseling Division will be hosting a virtual No Cop Outs (NCO) / AA meeting via Zoom on Sunday, 30 June 2024 from 1200-1300 hours. No Cop Outs is a meeting place for police officers experiencing difficulties in their lives – or wanting to change their lives because of alcohol and related addictions. Everyone is welcome at No Cop Outs, regardless of rank, gender, race, or religion. Attendance at a No Cop Outs meeting is entirely voluntary and confidential. There are no records of attendance or membership. Members disclose only what they care to tell about themselves. By attending a No Cop Outs meeting, you will be offered friendship and understanding, and support from police officers who have walked the walk.
