Edward George Miller, passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 77, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, while on a fishing trip in Minnesota with his son and grandson. Ed was born in Chicago, IL on January 1, 1947, the son of the late Edward and Eleanore (Madsen) Miller. Currently of Joliet, Ed grew up in Oak Lawn and was a graduate of Oak Lawn High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lewis University. Ed was a proud veteran of the United States Army, receiving a National Defense Service Medal and was a sharpshooter with his rifle. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1080, the Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 303 in Bonita Springs, FL, and the Mistwood Golf Club. Ed retired in 1993 from the Illinois State Police Department where he was a Homicide Detective. In his encore career, Ed worked at Harrah’s Casino as the head of security. Ed enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his fishing trips, being out on the golf course with his friends, and spending the winters at his home in Bonita Springs, FL with his wife. He was always the life of the party, had a charming personality, and was an all-around fun-loving guy. Anyone who knew Ed, knew he loved a cold Miller Lite, enjoyed telling a good story, and that he loved his family more than anything. Ed played sports his entire life and shared that passion with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Joyce (nee Brown); his children, Edward (Jennifer) Miller, Michelle (George) Miller Kvarta, Natalie Miller, Mike (Lisa) Barnhart, and Lisa (Tom) Schwer; grandchildren, Zachary and Allison Miller, Aiden and Ashton Miller Kvarta, Xzavier Reusse, Mathew, Tommy and Mike Schwer; brother, John (the late Marcia) Miller; sister, Patricia (Tom) Warman; and his brother-in-law, Bert Dalmer. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kathleen Dalmer. Funeral Services for Edward George Miller will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in his name to the Disabled Veteran National Foundation.
