Dario Anthony Nomellini passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at home on August 5, 2024, at the age of 76. Born in 1948, the eldest son of Italian immigrant parents (Armando and Norma) and brother to John Dante, Dario dedicated his life to serving others through his distinguished career and extensive network of family and friends. As a retired Chicago Police Department Sergeant, Dario's commitment to his career was unwavering. He began his journey in the Police Cadet Program in 1966 at 18 and served with the Chicago Police Department from April 15, 1968, to March 15, 2004, with badge numbers 13918 and 1647. He started as a patrolman in the 020th District, then moved to the Area 5 Detective Division in the Burglary Unit, where he was promoted to Sergeant and then worked downtown in various units. He joined the Vice Unit in 1991 and later Organized Crime. Dario's career saw him as a Supervisor in the Narcotics Unit, where he played a crucial role in developing the Drug Interdiction Unit. He then transferred to the Personnel Division and concluded his career as the Commanding Officer of the Random Drug Unit. Sergeant Nomellini was known for being terrific with people and getting them to open up to him. His partners have noted that he was one of the only police officers who would have suspects laughing at interrogations. Dario served as a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus at the parish of St. Bartholomew. Dario's love for his family was boundless, and his grandchildren were a source of immense joy. They hold dear memories of his candid nature and mornings spent reading the paper, sharing cookies and coffee; his love for Spaghetti Western movies, cats, and pasta; his cherished collection of 'Love Is...' comics; and the occasional teaching of swear words. His love for his grandchildren was deep and unwavering; they will never forget the special bond they shared with him. Dario noticed the small details, offered unconditional love and encouragement to his family, and always had a fun and adventurous police story to share. His memory lives on in the "Papa-isms" he used to proclaim, such as "Oh balls," "That is Joe Quackabedais," "stram," "high low, low high," "Throw it out the window," "I'm not hungry, I ate two grapes," and "Luh-Lu" (Love You). His many friends, family, and colleagues will deeply miss Dario. His fiery and passionate personality, take-it-or-leave-it attitude, and legacy of kindness, humor, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family invites his friends, family, and community to celebrate his life. Dario is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sons Anthony (Jolene) and Matthew (Stephanie); daughters Jenny (Jeremy Potempa), Faye (Joe Berlage), Betsy (Ian Lenahan), and Mary (Kevin Yarashefski); and 16 grandchildren (Anthony Jr., Alyssa, Bethany, Ty, Liam, Bobby, Ian, Isaac, Keenan, Eli, Quinn, Cole, Neala, Camden, Therésè, and Lucca) who lovingly call him "Papa." Dario has found eternal peace alongside his wife, Barbara Ann Nomellini; his parents, Armando and Norma Nomellini; Uncle Lawrence Nomellini; and Aunt Yolanda Reed, Née Martinelli. Robert M. Spreyne CPD, 76, passed away peacefully at home on August 4th. Loving husband of Jo Ann (Alm), respected and cherished father of Bob (Sheila), Bryan, Elizabeth, Dan, Melissa (Fetta) Graves. Loving grandfather to Matthew, Adam, Jack, Ryan, Blake, Evan and Emma. Bob lived his life devoted to protecting and providing for his family. Marrying young, Bob and Jo Ann spent 56 years loving, learning and growing up together. Bob worked 30 years for the Chicago police department, after retirement he worked at the Department of Aviation for 11years. His work ethic was inspiring to his children, his sons followed in his footsteps becoming successful in their chosen careers. If you knew Bob you would know a joke was about to be told. His laughter was contagious and always a joy to hear. We listened with great interest to his humorous 'old school' police stories. Bob also enjoyed talking about his time at Calumet high school playing football, in fact we felt we knew the players, their great moves and not so great moves. Please remember Bob as he was in your life. His memory will live on in our memories and hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation in memory of Robert M. Spreyne would be appreciated. You can use the link below. https://give.cpdmemorial.org/give/14239 ... n/checkout A visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
