Edward King Jr..png
Edward (Ed) Charles King Jr. passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at the young age of 67. His family sent him off with deep love and sorrow, commemorating the legacy and influence he instilled in those around him. Ed was born on July 25, 1957, at Mercy Hospital to Edward Charles King Sr. and Helen Sylvia Scholtens. He was a resident of Oak Park, Illinois, where he attended Oak Park River Forest High School before earning his associate’s degree as an Automobile Technician from Triton College. Ed married the love of his life, Caryl Roggatz, on September 21, 1985, and together went on to have 3 children: Robert, Kristen and Lauren. Ed was a man of many trades, whose close loved ones referred to as "the man who could fix anything". He began his career as an Auto Mechanic for Lincoln Mercury before joining the Chicago Police Department, where he served the city with honor, grace, and true passion for 28 years, first as a police officer, then as a Detective. After retiring in 2020, Ed spent his days continuing to fix cars and everything in between, while taking time to relax and play a round of golf, drive the family pontoon boat on Lake Redstone, perform polka songs on his accordion, and grill some of the best steaks one could taste, earning him the alias of "the Great Grillsby". He was eager to lend a helping hand to any in need and lifted even the darkest of spirits with a witty one-liner, creative joke, or a heartfelt poem or song. Ed will be missed immensely by all those who came to know him, especially his family: His wife, Caryl, and their children, Robert, Kristen (Mike) Saylor, and Lauren; his 5 siblings, Jim (Pam) King, Mary (Darren) Duvall, Kathy (Dave) Ronda; Carol (Mike Matthews) King, Bob (Karin) King; his two sisters-in-law, Karyn (Greg) Ness, Kristine (Steve) Allegretti, and his cherished nieces and nephews. Please join us in Ed's life celebration, where we will observe his intellect, integrity, and strength. Memorial visitation Wednesday August 21, 2024 3-7 p.m .
