Irene Komara passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 4, 2024, with her loving family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Komara retired C.P.D. Loving mother of Roberta “ Bobbie” (Donald retired C.P.D.) Smith, Anthony (Juanita) Komara, Christine (William retired Cook County Sheriff) Brazitis, the late John Komara and the late Cheryl Dunaj. Cherished grandmother of Jamie, John, Joseph, Jimmy and Samantha Dunaj, Katy, Gina, Michael, B.J. and Becky Komara, Thomas (Jackie) Komara, Matthew (Erin) Komara, Anthony Jr. (Jennifer)Komara, Brandon (Elizabeth) Komara, Dillon Komara, Cassandra (Brandon) and Gabriella Brazitis. Dear Great grandmother of many and great great grandmother of one. Fond sister of Norma (late Al) De Salvo and Arlen (late Vic) Cejka. Irene was preceded in death by her other brothers and sisters, Lorraine, Eugene, Patricia, Joseph and Alice. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation is Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:30 AM until time of Prayers at 9:30 AM. We will go in procession from the funeral home to St. Faustina Kowalska Church for a 10 AM Mass of Christian burial. Irene will be buried next to her beloved husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

The application process for the University of Chicago Police and Fire scholarship is now open. To be considered for this full-tuition scholarship, candidates must be a high school senior who qualifies and apply for admission to the University of Chicago and be children (or legally adopted children) of active, sworn Chicago Police Officers who will remain active for the duration of the recipient’s college careers. If you are applying for Early Decision I/ Early Action, your certification form must be submitted to Unit 124 by 01 November 2024. The Early Decision II/ Regular Decision certification form must be submitted to Unit 124 by 02 January 2025. If interested, please complete the attached certification form attached to AMC 313885, and submit it to the Deputy Chief’s Office, Training and Support Group, Unit 124-Attn: University of Chicago Scholarship, or email dc124admin@chicagopolice.org. Once your certification form is received and the information is verified, a receipt will be sent via department email.
