Michael T. Callahan, age 79, of Chicago. Retired patrolman, 4th District, CPD; U.S. Army veteran, 14th Armored Cavalry, died on November 1, after a brief illness. Cherished and devoted husband of 36 years to the eternally patient Margaret Mary (nee Jansky); beloved Da and tree to the apple of Susan L. Vopicka (Richard F., CFD); world’s greatest Papa to his “Lil’ Gurrl” Lauren Vopicka (Luka DiFilippo); son of the late Frank (CPD) and the late Mary Ellen; dear brother of the late Betty (the late Jack, CPD) Dwyer, the late Robert (CPD) (the late Jane), the late Donald (Marilyn), the late Dorothy (the late Joseph) Feldner, and the late Thomas; fond brother-in-law of James (Wendy) Jansky, Arthur (ret. CFD) (Janet) Jansky, and Thomas (Michelle) Jansky. Fond uncle of Maribeth, Barbara, and Bob Callahan, the late Maureen (William) Dwyer, and many other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Former spouse and tried-and-true friend of Julie A. Callahan (the late Jan F. Kaval). Lifelong friend and brother in blue of Bennie Vasquez and Ray Uchman. Mischievous friend to the neighborhood gang of Bill Dougherty, Ken Hanik and family, and Gerry Maloney and family. Loving dad to Max. Willie and Liam, tails a waggin, ran to greet their dad at the Rainbow Bridge. Proud Irish SouthSider; St. Justin Martyr and Leo High School graduate; Cubs, Bears, and Notre Dame fan. Marvin E. Roehlke, 91, devoted husband of Karen and loving father of Beth, passed away on Thursday October 24th. Born & raised in Forest Park, IL and longtime resident of Bloomingdale. A 1951 graduate of Proviso High School & a 36 year employee of Illinois Bell/Ameritech. Served in the US Army as a Military Policeman in Korea. Served as a part-time Police Officer for two years in Bloomingdale. Served as a member of the Bloomingdale Board of Education-District 13 for 11 1/2 years, six of those as president. Returned to the Bloomingdale Police Department as a volunteer for 20 years. Was honored by the Village of Bloomingdale and Bloomingdale Police Department with a sign posted on Tee Lane & Euclid stating, “Honorary Marv Roehlke Lane” Served on two village commissions relative to home rule. Was a member of the Lions Club of Bloomingdale for 53 years serving as Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, Director, Vice-President and President over the course of those years. Received three Melvin Jones awards & two Lions of Illinois Foundation awards.
