INFORMATION FROM PHIL HASKETT (RET)

Postby cdillon » Thu Mar 27, 2025 10:53 am

I received this from Father Dan Brandt and anyone with information Please respond!

To Whom It May Concern:

I was hoping to find somebody that has been with Chicago PD a long time. I am a retired Police Officer from The City of Dublin, Ohio. Way back in 1989 I started the Dublin Police Department's very first evidence room. I sought out advice from many resources but I found an impeccable source At Chicago PD.

I was referred to an Officer that was retired from the Bureau of Alcohol and Dangerous Drugs, later the DEA. He was something like a certified police consultant in the Chicago administration. I have been racking my brain to remember his name. He helped me to set up all my general orders and operations manuals for Dublin's first Evidence room. Considering his background, he could give me advice that nobody else would know.

When he was in the Bureau of Alcohol and Dangerous Drugs, he worked primarily with two New York City Narcotics Detectives named Eddie Egan and Sonny Grosso. He also had considerable insight to the investigation of the loss of 112 pounds of Heroin out of the NYPD Evidence lock up. I set up my G.O.s to protect Officers from temptation and to safeguard evidence. His information proved invaluable to me.

After I retired, I have had a few medical issues which screwed up my photographic memory. I can still recall about 89% of my career. But I cannot recall his name. I occasionally dream about things in my career, and I have been stumped on his name. He didn't have a difficult name, I just can't recall it. I have died a couple of times since retirement in July 2000 and I am sure my memory gaps came from those events. I still remember every word he said to me except for his name. My guess is he would be dead by now since everyone he worked with back in New York is dead now. Any chance anyone in Chicago PD remembers his name? He was the Fed they refer to in the Movie "The French Connection". He told me they did not base any characters in the movie on him, but he was fully involved in that bust and the subsequent investigation of the missing heroin the NYPD had confiscated.

Any help is appreciated. All I have left are my memories. Dublin was a Village of 3200 people when I started there. I was the 5th Officer they had ever hired. We had one secretary and she worked for the Chief. Today they have 74 sworn Officers and 51 civilian support staff. Dublin is to Columbus, Ohio as Beverly Hills is to LA. I was there for the unimaginable growth spurt. I was the CSI/Purchasing Officer, and I also worked as a patrol Officer and I was my own secretary throughout my career. And I loved every minute of it. So any help is appreciated.
