William S. Condon 48203305
William S. Condon Obituary

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

William S. Condon (Bill, ‘Poppy’) passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12th, 2026. God called to him on Holy Saturday and brought him Home on Divine Mercy Sunday. He is survived by his cherished wife of 63 years, Delphine (nee Mezydlo), his three adored children, Kevin (Molly), Brian (Jennifer) & Kerrilynn (Bob) Neal. He was the most devoted and proud Poppy of his seven grandchildren, William, Sam, Emily, Clare, Julia, Jillian & Chloe. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Ann (Dumas).

Bill was born on January 20th, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to Gladys (nee Mankey) and William Condon, and had one sister Patricia Ann. Bill’s father was a Chicago fireman, and his mother was a homemaker. Bill met Delphine (Del), the love of his life, on a blind date during their junior year of high school. Bill was attending Mt. Carmel while Del was attending Aquinas Dominican. What impressed Del the most was “he was such a gentleman.” Throughout high school, Bill worked at Shore Auto Rebuilders in Chicago, which fueled his lifelong interest in cars. Because Bill was such an entrusted employee, his boss allowed him to use the repaired cars on the weekends. Bill and Del would cruise in the ‘coolest’ cars, the most memorable being the ‘57 Chevy Bel Air. School was not a priority for Bill until his high school accounting teacher inspired him to pursue a career in business, and for all who knew Bill, the rest is history!

On August 17th, 1963, Bill and Del said: “I do”! In 1964, they purchased their first home in the Roseland neighborhood in Chicago. Along came Irish twins Kevin & Brian, and Kerrilynn made her way into the world 3 years later. During this time, Bill worked as an accountant at W.H. Miner by day while attending DePaul University at night. After graduating in 1971 with a B.S. in accounting, passing the CPA exam would be the catalyst for his future success. During this period of family and business growth, they uprooted and built a home in Calumet City, IL. Here, they would join St. Victor Catholic Church, which sparked their journey of shared family faith, a strong community, and lasting friendships; most notably Father Leo Mahon and his associate, Father Bill Stenzel. Our family enjoyed many summer vacations in White Hall, MI, with some amazing friends and families during these years. These times were truly special, and those memories have lived on in all of us.

Bill was a risk-taker. He left W. H. Miner to join a small accounting firm in Lansing, IL. Bill eventually became partner but felt the need to be on his own. In 1973, that is exactly what he did! It was the beginning of a venture, William Condon & Co., which would then become The Condon Group. His clients would say Bill had an unwavering ethical commitment to act with integrity in all he did, including confidentiality, transparency, and complete truthfulness regardless of the circumstances. Bill was never afraid of change and strived to be the best firm possible for his clients. He believed in old school values and clients admired his knowledge and presence. He was highly regarded in the legal community and was often called upon to serve as an expert witness on business, tax, and valuation issues in State and Federal Court. Bill also served on several bank and hospital boards throughout his life.

While Bill’s business was burgeoning, he was diagnosed with a severe eye condition that could have led to permanent blindness. However, he was not going to let this defeat him. He carried this strong faith and resilience throughout his life to the very end.

Beyond Bill’s commitment to excellence was his generosity. Not only to his family, but to those families in need. Every Christmas, Bill, Del, and their children would personally drop off food and gifts to families to bring joy and happiness in their time of need. His generosity spread to yearly company Christmas parties hosting underprivileged children from Aunt Martha’s, a non-profit organization providing support for at-risk youth and families. This became a tradition of giving back not only to Aunt Martha’s but also flowed into other organizations throughout Bill’s life. One he was especially proud of was his service with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, which honors fallen and catastrophically injured officers. Bill served on the Executive Board and as Board President. In the words of Arthur J. Hannus, close friend and the Foundation’s current Executive Director, “Bill proudly served for 15 years where he was a staunch advocate for Chicago’s police officers and their families. As Board President, his leadership, vision, and dedication strengthened the Foundation’s mission and left a lasting impact. He was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering passion for service.” All of this is a testament to who he was, but most importantly, he was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Outside of Bill’s business success, family and friends were always at the center of everything he did. As the summers up North ended, Bill and Del’s love for boating was born. Family vacations in White Hall, MI, soon turned into family vacations in New Buffalo, MI. These years of boating and the close friendships that developed from the Lake Michigan Yacht Club and Warwick Shores hold such wonderful memories. The laughter, cigars and bourbon for the guys, game nights that a lot of the time were extremely competitive among Del (Grammy) and the grandchildren - rubber chickens that were prizes for our outdoor games. We can never forget the rubber chickens! Watching Jaws every summer was a must! Dinners and golf at Long Beach Country Club, fireworks on the 4th of July…Bill would take this all in and would always credit Del for his success in life. He truly loved her, his children, and his grandchildren. He would drop everything to be there for any one of us in time of need. That is who he was. He would define his success in life as not the business he built, but the family he and Del built.

Near the end, even while battling his illness, he never complained. He embodied such strength and resilience to go on in spite of it all. He took pride in the fact that he completed one final tax return…his own.

As long as we draw breath, he is still alive in all of us because love never

dies. We love you always and forever…

Bill’s was a life truly well lived.
