Chris A. Pienta (1954–2026)

Chris A. Pienta, age 71, passed away on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 24, 1954, Chris was a lifelong resident of the Bridgeport neighborhood, where he built a life centered around family, friendship, and community.

Chris loved cheering on the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Blackhawks. To him, there was no better seat for the game than his favorite spot on the couch. He enjoyed sitting outside, talking sports with neighbors and friends, and bringing joy to others through his love of decorating for Christmas. Chris proudly decorated nearly half the block on Throop Street each holiday season.

Chris also leaves behind a lasting legacy as “Coach” to many. In his earlier years, he dedicated countless hours to coaching basketball and baseball and helping raise money for youth sports in the neighborhood. His generosity, kindness, and genuine willingness to help others will always be remembered.

Chris was the devoted husband of Catherine “Katie” Pienta (nee Marose); the loving father of Christopher (Mimi), Nicole (Michael) Calderone, and Matthew Pienta; the cherished Papa of Maizy, Lucca, and Logan; and the proud “Big Chris” to Mikey, Jayden and Nikko. He was the beloved son of the late Virginia (nee Goga) and Casimir Pienta; dear brother of Maryeve (Terry) Lerner, Dennis Pienta, Russell (Donna) Pienta, and the late Clifford and Mitchell Pienta. Is survived by many nieces and nephews.

His family was the center of his world. He never missed a game, a school pickup, a holiday, or a special family event, and he took immense pride in always being present for those he loved most.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Barbara Church, 2859 South Throop Street. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barbara Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that guests honor Chris by wearing their favorite sports jersey to the visitation. Chris A. Pienta Obituary May 12, 2026 - Pomierski Funeral Home
