LIBRARY MONITOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Description
This is a part time position involving direct public service and primarily responsible for monitoring patron activity in accordance with library policies. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director. May receive direction from the Librarian in Charge
Job Responsibilities
Monitor the activity of library users, maintain order, prevent disturbances and resolve discipline problems that occur within the library or its grounds
Enforces the Evergreen Park Public Library Code of Conduct
Circulate throughout the public areas of the library, inside and out, at designated intervals
Be aware of potential trouble spots or individuals
Exhibit welcoming behavior and answer directional questions
Communicate, interact, and work cooperatively and non-judgmentally with people of all ages, ethnicity, and educational backgrounds utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills
Maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to library use
Analyze situations, assess the degree of seriousness and respond appropriately following established library policies and procedures
Assist and support with individual behavior management
Complete and file incident report forms, if warranted
Telephone police and emergency services as needed
Look for and report acts of vandalism to the facility, restrooms, library materials, fixtures, outer facility, and grounds
Refer questions and problems to the appropriate party
Assist with general neatness of the library
Clear and salt the walkways when necessary
Other duties as assigned

Education and Related Work Experience
Security, education or pertinent background to enforce discipline
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience working with young people preferred
Must be a minimum of 21 years old
Must provide own transportation
