Jordan Edward McDermott (60) of Chicago, IL passed away on January 31, 2023. He was born January 10, 1963 at Little Company of Mary Hospital on the South Side of Chicago to Nancy Phee and Daniel McDermott. Jordan dedicated his life to his family and serving his beloved city. He is survived by his wife Lydia (née Rosales), daughters Megan (Charles), Allison, and Caitlin, son Jordan Jr., and pup Hamilton. He began this journey of service as an ICU nurse at St. Mary's and Holy Family Hospital, serving his community for over 30 years. Following in his father's footsteps, he joined the Chicago Fire Department as both a firefighter and paramedic in 2001. Not only did he work tirelessly to keep others safe and cared for, he demonstrated deep pride and love for the brotherhood of the CFD. Jordan’s love for his extended family grew from his dedication and fierce love for his immediate family. His children were his pride and joy. He worked tirelessly to ensure that each of his kids knew they were loved, supported, and accepted, all in effortless fashion. He was a constant fixture at Brownie meetings, soccer games, regattas, water polo games, and theater productions. He was so proud of the adults that his children have grown into. Jordan was also over the moon about becoming a grandpa, selecting the name "Papa", a perfect role for someone so warm, silly, helpful, and kind. Jordan distinguished himself in this role early on: he adored spending quality time with nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Also a beloved brother and son, he fostered and maintained deep relationships with his siblings and mother. Whether it was spending time together on holidays or stopping by for a grocery store trip or a simple visit, Jordan understood the value of family. Jordan loved being outside; it was truly his zen. He enjoyed hiking, golfing, landscaping, gardening, and cutting the grass. A natural green thumb, Jordan worked to curate each space he lived in, taking care of the land in meticulous fashion and naturally beautifying the area to better serve all of its inhabitants. His most recent project was in Castle Rock, WI where he worked alongside his son to rehabilitate a home from its foundation and cultivate 8 acres of land. He hoped to plant 100 red maple saplings in the spring for future generations to enjoy. A friend and father to all, Jordan wrote on the hearts of all those he knew. His caring heart, easy humor, and zest for life will live on in those that remember him.
