Daniel Walter Sliwa, Navy Veteran, Retired Captain C.F.D., age 83 of Gilbert, AZ, formerly of the Southwest Side of Chicago. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Ratkay). Loving father of Daniel A. Sliwa, Jeffrey (Jennifer Ramirez) Sliwa and Lawrence Sliwa. Cherished son of the late Bruno and Sophia Sliwa. Devoted brother of Lois (the late Richard) Carroll and the late Raymond. Funeral Friday 9:15am from RICHARD J MODELL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 12641 W. 143rd Street, Homer Glen to Our Lady of the Woods Church, Mass 10am. Entombment Resurrection Garden Mausoleum. Visitation Thursday 3pm to 8pm. Former member of St. Turibius H.N.S. and St. Turibius Sports Boosters Club. Ten-year Volunteer for P.G.A., L.P.G.A. and A.J.G.A. in Arizona and member of Chicago Fire Department Union Local #2 and International Association of Fire Fighters. Dan was very proud of having 3 holes in one. Richard Allen Sutton was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1944, and passed away at home on October 12, 2023. He lived an exemplary life of service devoted to others, from the battlefield to the beat to the bench to the bedside of the stricken. In 1963, Rich enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to join the fight in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Rich was a police officer in Lombard, Riverside and Downers Grove, IL. Rich graduated from John Marshall Law School and became Risk Manager at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Rich became an Assistant State's Attorney for Kane County and later moved to the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Affairs Hospital. Rich volunteered at Fox Valley Hands of Hope for 30 years, providing comfort to the terminally ill, including his fellow veterans. Rich was a member of St. Thomas More Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister and minister of care. Rich helped create the bereavement ministry for the parish. Rich was an officer and active member of the Marine Corps League, McHenry Detachment. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his four children; and eight grandchildren. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 215 Thomas More Dr., Elgin. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4-8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin and on Saturday morning, at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of mass. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps at the conclusion of mass. Ralph A. Zaccariello, age 72, of North Riverside. Devoted son of the late Ralph and Vivian Zaccariello. Fond brother of the late Joseph (Toshiko) Zaccariello. Dear Uncle of Michael (Alexis) Zaccariello, Daniel (Hagit Barkai) Zaccariello and James (Kate) Zaccariello. Founder and Presider of the September 11, 2001 Patriots Day Service of Remembrance for the Village of North Riverside for over 10 years. A mentor to several hundred firefighters in the Chicago area as one of the leaders of the Stone Park Fire Academy. Retired 9-1-1 Emergency Operator for the Village of LaGrange Park and the Village of North Riverside. Former trusted baseball coach for the CYO of Oak Park/Galewood neighborhoods, intense football coach for the “Little Huskies” football teams of Oak Park/River Forest, a respected referee and umpire for numerous youth and high school sports. Ralph leaves behind numerous friends that Ralph has helped, assisted or supported during many years of personal and dedicated friendships. Ralph was the true meaning of Duty-Honor-Pride-Tradition in the fire service and believed that all Americans should “Always Remember"and "Never Forget" the sacrifices of the many police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel that have given the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their communities. In keeping with Ralph’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial for Ralph is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2023. Memorial Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 105 Herrick Road, Riverside. A reception will follow at Cafe DeLuca, 7427 Madison Street, Forest Park to celebrate and remember Ralph's life, friendship and accomplishments. Greetings Police and Fire Communities, City and Suburbs!

On December 1st. 1958, the tragic loss of 95 lives occurred at Our Lady of Angels school here in Chicago one of the worst school fires in U.S. History … on Friday December 1st, 2023 there will be a mass of remembrance commemorating the 65th year of this horrific tragedy.

Services will be at Holy Family Church, just west of Saint Ignatius College Prep … at 1114 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, Illinois at 6:00pm, doors open at 4:30pm, parking adjacent to the church.

The celebrant for the mass will be Chicago Fire Department Chaplain Fr. William McFarland and services will commence with the Chicago Fire Department Color Guard.

All are welcome to attend. Please spread the word.
