Joseph P. Murphy, MAY 11, 1948 – DECEMBER 20, 2023. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph Patrick Murphy, of the Chicago Police Department. Joe was the beloved husband of Patricia (nee Neri); Loving father of Joseph M. CFD (Danielle) and Colleen DDS (Blair DDS) Feldman; Proud papa of Emily Murphy, Kate Murphy, Jonah Feldman and Finn Feldman; Dear brother of the late James (Patricia), Barbara(the late Karl) Lucas, and Dennis (Bonnie); Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Joe was a lifelong Chicagoan who graduated from St. Sabina Grade School, Leo High School and Chicago State and St. Xavier Universities. Joe was a proud Marine from 1967-1969 and was a Vietnam Veteran of 4 combat tours who won 2 purple hearts. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1970 where he loyally served the citizens of Chicago until his car accident in 2005 that left him with a spinal cord injury and returned to duty as a civilian in the role of Deputy Director of Forensics Services and Evidence and Recovered Property and remained in this position until his death. When he was in the detective division, he believed that he was the voice of the victim who could no longer speak for themselves. He truly believed from the bottom of his heart that people need and want to tell the truth. Joe loved his family above all else and was a dear friend to many. He enjoyed countless hours driving his pontoon boat on Paw Paw Lake and marveled at the beautiful sunsets on the lake. Joe also loved old movies, college sports, and of course the Bears. He was a fighter who never gave up and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Joseph's name to the Chicago Police Chaplains Ministry, Tunnel to Towers, and Mercy home for boys and girls. A visitation for Joseph will be held Saturday, December 23, 2023, from 1:00pm Until 5:00pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Patrick J. Walsh was born Sep. 1, 1941, and passed away on Dec. 20, 2023. Beloved husband of Kathleen Keogh Walsh; dear brother of Judy Walsh, the late Michael (Jimmy) and Thomas Walsh; fond brother in law of Mary Keogh and Marlies (Gast) Keogh; cherished uncle of Ron (Amy) Alfonso, Tony (Stephanie) Alfonso, Nicole (Derek) Genthner, Sean, Timothy, Mark (Kelly) Keogh; and great uncle of Kole, Nora, Maxx Alfonso, Anthony, Rocco, Dominic Alfonso, Grace, Brooke, Griffin Genthner, Connor, Miles Keogh, Kansey Keogh, and Jack and Josephine Koegh. Patrick was an energetic, active man who spent his days rewarding others with his very positive attitude toward life. As a firefighter for 29 years, he was a self-giving engineer who performed diligently without question. Sincere gratitude to the caregivers for their constant support. During the holiday season, many of us will celebrate our well-being, family, and friends, even though we may not be able to be together. For some of us, the holiday season has the opposite effect. It may bring about an increased level of anxiety, stress, anger, and depression. The memory of what the holiday season traditionally meant in the past can adversely affect us due to various individual circumstances. If you are having difficulty coping during this holiday season, the Professional Counseling Division/Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is here for you. FREE, Confidential services are available to all Department members (sworn and civilian) and their immediate family. EAP has professionally trained clinicians, sworn alcohol and substance use counselors, certified peer support members, and chaplains, and is just a phone call away. Services can be obtained at any of the three EAP Locations: 1759 W. Adams, 5440 N. Cumberland, and 11540 S. Western. Other resources, including the “10 Tips for Staying Sober” handout (attached to AMC 303773), are also available by calling the EAP number at 312-743- 0378. Promoting and ensuring the wellness of another requires all of us to get involved. Let’s make a concerted effort to be there for each other. Stay safe and be well!
