Eileen De Cora Born March 24, 1948. Graduate of St. Ethelreda Grammar School and Mother McAuley High School. Attended the University of Oklahoma at Stillwater. Eileen became the firsts female line worker for Illinois Bell in Northern Illinois. She then joined the U.S. Navy in 1974, trained in Pensacola, Florida and was assigned to Okinawa, where she met her future husband, US Marine Staff Sergeant Michael De Cora. After leaving the Navy, Eileen joined the Metro-Dade Police Department, where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant. When Eileen and Michael retired, they bought a farm in Williston, Florida where they raised cattle and high-end hay. Eileen served her country and city with distinguished honor. Blessings to you Eileen, for your kindness, your efforts, your love and support. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Alexander Parish Church, 7025 West 126th Street, Palos Heights, Illinois on Saturday, January 6th at 11:30 am.

Clay A. Halston, born in Chicago, Illinois, spent his childhood in the vibrant Rogers Park neighborhood at 1251 Arthur Avenue. Raised by his mother, Cecelia (Glynn) Halston, his aunt, Irene Glynn, and grandmother, Celia (Davitt) Glynn. Clay attended St. Ignatius Catholic Elementary School until transferring to Hayt School where Irene was principal. Clay attended Sullivan High School, graduating in 1947. Clay's formative years were enriched with stories of friendship, family bonds, and his grandmother's charming Irish wit that indelibly shaped his character. Clay served in the Marine Corps Reserves 1951-1953. During his early training in Parris Island, SC, Clay distinguished himself, earning top honors at the rifle range. Stationed at Camp Matthews in La Jolla, California during the Korean War, Clay served as a Primary Marksmanship instructor, imparting his expertise to young recruits on the rifle and pistol ranges. Clay began his college journey at the University of Illinois at Navy Pier after his service in the Marines, culminating in his graduation from Northern Illinois University in 1955 with a BS in Social Science. On February 15th, 1961, Clay married the love of his life, Josephine Ann Curran, at Saint Henry's Church in Chicago, Illinois, solidifying a bond that would endure for a lifetime. Queen of All Saints became the nucleus of family life for Clay and Joanne, residing in Sauganash & Edgebrook. Both children attended elementary school at QAS school. Many friendships were formed and maintained during Clay & Joanne’s 48 years in the parish. And they deeply appreciated the lifetime of memories and strong bonds created there. Clay had a distinguished 30-year career with the Chicago Police Department as a juvenile detective primarily on the West and North sides of Chicago. Clay left an enduring impact on the community. After retiring in 1992, Clay became an active volunteer at the Irish American Heritage Center, embodying the spirit of service and community. Clay and Joanne moved to Covenant Village in November 2013. Clay embraced a rich tapestry of activities, showcasing his zest for life. The family acknowledges the exemplary care Clay received in the Covenant community, particularly from the dedicated end-of-life care team. Clay is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle, brothers, wife Joanne and son Gregory. Clay is survived by his son, John Halston (Kirsten), and daughter, Mary Kay Halston (Scott Barton). He leaves a lasting legacy through his five grandchildren: Caroline Halston, Anna Halston, Jack Barton, Evie Halston, and Spencer Barton. He is, also, survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of cherished family and friends. As we bid farewell to Clay Allison Halston, let us remember a life well-lived—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Marine, educator, and public servant whose impact will resonate for generations.
