Ronald Caliendo.png
Ron Caliendo passed away peacefully at the age of 77, after a long and valiant fight with lung cancer surrounded by his family. Ron was multi-talented with a tremendous knowledge of mechanics and was always ready to lend a hand helping others with building projects and auto and truck repairs. He had a great ability to solve complex problems and his favorite catch phrase was, “The difficult I can do immediately, the impossible takes me a little longer.” Ron’s greatest love was his devoted wife Victoria (Vickie) who he met in 1966 when they were teenagers. Ron and Vickie were married in 1971 and have been inseparable for over 52 years. Ron is also survived by his precious daughters, Michelle (John) Gibbelina and Theresa (Michael) Simandl and his adored six grandchildren, Gianna, Anthony, Juliana, Gabriella, Michael and Alyssa for whom he lived and dedicated his life. He was considered their “Superhero” and there was nothing he would stop at to make them happy. Ron’s life will live on through his family and cherished memories and Italian traditions like Pasta Sunday and Bingo and Card Games. Ron lived his life for his family and friends and was the Patriarch of the family. His devotion was endless, and he was considered the richest man alive to those who knew and loved him. Ron was a selfless person filled with endless love, incredible strength, an abundance of knowledge, kindness, and loyalty. His humor and kindness are what made people love him. Ron especially enjoyed working with his CPD family where he served and protected our Chicago citizens for over 20 years. Ron was known as a generous man with a “Heart of Gold” who’s memory will be cherished forever. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Campese Caliendo and his sister, Rosina Caliendo Iacopelli. He also has many nieces and nephews who he loved and who will miss him. Rons tremendous light hearted sense of humor and love for life and devotion to his family will live on in our hearts forever until we meet again! Visitation for Ron will take place on Thursday March 21, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, Il. Bernice O’Dea.png
Bernice M. “Bea” O’Dea, (nee McGuire), 104, passed away peacefully in her childhood home on March 17. She was born in 1919 and baptized at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. Bea was an only child after her brother Robert died in infancy. Her parents moved to Bea’s, life-time home on Lowe Avenue in Canaryville when Bea was two-years old. She attended St. Gabriel Grammar School and graduated from Visitation High School. Bea was a long-time employee of Coach & Car before joining Cook County’s Purchasing Department, where she worked until her retirement. Bea was a loyal member of the St. Gabriel Women’s Club, the Boyce Park Senior Citizen Group, and an original/last living member of the Lowettes–her “club” of dear girlfriends. Bea loved St. Gabriel Parish and generously supported every fundraising effort. Bea also had great respect and gratitude for the Mercy nuns who–in addition to being her teachers– became her neighbors when the St. Gabriel Convent was built on the corner of 45th and Lowe in 1925. Once retired, Bea loved to travel. Although she never learned to drive, she took advantage of every form of public transportation. City bus routes were her favorite. Bea traveled to many places via charter bus and train with beloved friends, including Helen Minol, Estelle Dolan and Beverly Finn. When Bea wasn’t a passenger, she walked…everywhere! Bea was preceded in death by her loving parents Walter and Catherine (Joyce) McGuire and her son, Walter (Gail). She is survived by her children Edward (Janine), John, ret. CPD (Susan) and Joyce (Richard, ret. CFD) Diver; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. The family extends our sincere love and appreciation to Sophia Mica as Bea’s devoted caregiver and friend for the past nine years. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Gabriel School. Visitation at St. Gabriel Church, 4522 South Wallace Street, Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, March 21st, 2024 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. . Private Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Illinois. Please visit BERNICE M. ODEA book of memories.
