John Baranowski, 63, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Sunday, June 09, 2024. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Baranowski on Sunday, June 09, 2024 in Chicago, IL. Retired Sergeant for the Chicago Police Department, District 24, he devoted 25 years prior to his retirement protecting and serving the city of Chicago. Adored son of George and the late Irene Baranowski; Devoted husband of Nahrain Baranowski; Loving father of Steven (Jennifer) Baranowski; Dear Grandfather of John Baranowski and Steven Baranowski; Beloved brother of Thomas Baranowski, Bonnie (Carl Moellenberndt) Schmied, Jan (Pat) Short, the late Ellen Baranowski, June (Vince) Fergus; Adoring son-in-law of Fadhila Balyos; and brother in-law to Nayle (Judy) Bikoma, George (Tamar) Bikoma, Narseen (Mike) Hall, Pauline Lybold, Billy (Patty) Bikoma; and dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews. Family & Friends will gather for a visitation for John on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Chapel Prayers for John on Tuesday, June 18, 20204 at 9:00 AM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Funeral Mass will occur Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM at St. Ephrem Chaldean Church, 2537 W Bryn Mawr Ave, Chicago, IL 60659.

Spiritual Wellness is a vital part of Officer Wellness. The Chaplains Unit holds its Fellowship Meetings and the opportunity to share faith every Friday at the Training Academy located at 1300 W. Jackson Blvd. This week’s meeting will be held on Friday, 14 JUNE 2024 from 1300-1330 hours. All active duty and retired CPD members are welcome to attend.
SPECIAL EVENT!
CPD Fathers’ Day Mass at Gold Star Families Memorial and Park at 1000 hours Sunday, 16 June 2024. All active and retired CPD members, Gold Star Families, Chaplains Ministry supporters, and their families are welcome, as is the public. Mass will be finished by 1030 hours to accommodate on-duty worshipers on their lunch break. While this is a Catholic Mass, ALL are welcome to honor dads, grandfathers, and father figures whose names are permanently inscribed on the walls of the CPD memorial. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic lunch if you want to stick around. Call Fr. Dan Brandt, CPD Chaplain, in case of inclement weather, at 773-550-2369 for status updates. Ample free parking is available on Museum Campus Drive. Uniformed CPD officers will direct you. The CFD 5-11 canteen will provide water, Gatorade, coffee, and snacks.
