He was a loving father of David Magana and Jasmine (Enrique Nevarez Jr.) Magana-Nevarez; dearest grandfather of Benjamin Nevarez; close companion to Maria Magana; beloved son of Wilbourne Woods and Lucille Olvera-Woods; fond brother of Dorian (Hicela) Woods and Mario (Rose) Woods; and a cherished nephew, uncle, and cousin. He was a dedicated Police Officer of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for 28 years from 1987 to 2015, serving as a member of several elite units during his career. After retiring from CPD in 2015 he continued his career in law enforcement by joining the Amtrak Police Department. Over his 37 years of service Steven earned the respect and admiration of all of his colleagues. He was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, a true testament to his commitment to public safety. He was a mentor who was always willing to offer guidance and support to younger officers and a source of support to all of his colleagues and everyone he encountered during his years of public service. An avid fan of all sports, Steven was also an athlete. Excelling in basketball and running, leading him victorious throughout his life from his High School years competing as a varsity member of the Curie Condors Basketball team to his recent years completing two Chicago Marathons. Steven loved staying active and physically fit in which part of his daily routine always consisted of walking his beloved dog Kiko for miles up and down Chicago’s lakefront. He was a diehard Chicago sports fan, enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and history books. All of his family and friends respected, loved, and cherished him. We are truly devastated by his loss. We seek comfort in knowing that we are blessed to have shared in part of his journey through life. He will be truly missed. We will honor Steven’s memory forever.
