James Banks.jpg

James M. Banks passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 76. Originally from the East Side, Jim spent most of his life in Hegewisch. He was the beloved Husband of Jo-Al Banks and loving Dad to Jackie, married to Michael Mahlum. His most favorite role was as the cherished Papa to Miranda and Dillon. He was the dearest brother to his twin Janice and younger sister Cathy and was a fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Banks, and siblings, John, Tom, Marlene, and Peggy. James was very proud of his over 30 years of service to the Chicago Police Department. He was also a U.S. Army veteran where he trained his military dog Casey. James was also known as Jim, Jimmy, or Troublemaker. If you ever left his house you were told to go slow and use the mirrors. His whistle could be heard loud and far. He believed strongly that pretty much everything could be fixed by duct tape. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers he would want you to go out with your loved ones for hot tavern-style pizza with cold beer (make sure they reach to the back, and use a frosted mug if they have one), muster your best Chicago accent, and ask someone “How You Doin’?” Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. with prayers at Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago, IL. then to Christ Our Light Church (formerly St. Florian Church) for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
