James Ferolo.png
James Vincent Ferolo, Age 78, beloved husband of Kathleen, nee Mele. Loving father of James (Nina) and Dina (Chris) Zolnierek. Cherished Papa of Grace, Rose, Frances, Joey, Katie and Madelyn. Our father served the City of Chicago as a Chicago Police Officer and Foreman for the Department of Aviation during his 35- year career. He was a Chicago guy through and through. He took great pride in being a Police Officer and always supported the men and women in blue who do a difficult job for all of us every day. He loved to golf and play gin rummy. He was great at both. He truly loved and enjoyed his family and friends. He was often the life of the party. His stories and jokes gave us great joy over the years. The stories got even better the third or fourth time around! He enjoyed listening to and singing Dean Martin songs. Over the last six months while living at the Auberge Memory Care facility in Lake Zurich, our father, on an almost daily basis, would entertain his fellow residents singing Dean Martin tunes. We would often walk into a round of applause as he closed the show. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Staff at Auberge for the care and compassion they showed our father and mother during these last six months. They often made him and our family smile when smiles were hard to come by. We love you Dad. We will miss you, and we will continue to make you proud. SPECIAL EVENT!
Over the years, we have tragically lost too many of our members to suicide. On Saturday, 14 September 2024, the Chicago Police Department will join forces with many additional Public Safety Organizations to continue the fight for suicide prevention, and for the mental health and wellness of our members. For the Public Safety Community, the exposure to violence and trauma can create invisible wounds, causing a higher rate of suicide than the general public. The Public Safety Community United Team will participate in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention “Out of the Darkness” Walk for Suicide Prevention to come together and show support for those who may be in need of a helping hand. We will also walk in honor of those that we have previously lost, both active and retired. This is a three-mile walk; however, you are welcomed to also show support by joining the team prior to the walk step off time to participate in the pre-walk activities. Also, donations will be accepted online until 31 December 2024. This year’s event will begin at 0900 hours at Montrose Harbor, with a stage program and Honored Bead Ceremony at 1030 hours. The walk will begin at 1100 hours. All Department members who are able are encouraged to participate in this very worthy cause. Interested members may register by using the QR code on the attached flyer to AMC 313393. Signs and t-shirts that honor members that we’ve lost are welcomed. Our EAP members will be onsite.
