James F. Lynch “Duke”, age 74, of Harwood Heights, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 14th, 2024. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Jurek); loving father of Megan (Michael) Loewe, Beth (Donald) McCue, Nora (Brian) McCormick, Ryan (Liza) and Daniel Lynch; cherished grandfather of Colin Loewe, Aiden, Quinn, & Sean McCue; Liam, Maeve, and Molly McCormick, Lilliana, Landon, and Alivia Lynch; caring brother of the late Therese; adoring son of the late Frank and Lucille; fond friend of many. “Duke” or “Alamo” also loved his pup, Molly. James Lynch was a retired member of the Chicago Police Department (39 years). He proudly fought for his country in Vietnam as a United States Marine. He grew up in South Shore and LaGrange Park. He is and will always be a “Legend” and loved spending time and “playing” softball and volleyball with his friends from high school. Duke was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Purdue fan! Go Boilers! Visitation 3 to 8pm on Thursday, September 19th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Chapel prayers, 9:15am, from the Funeral Home to St. Louise de Marillac on Friday, September 20th, for a 10am Funeral Mass. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chicago. Brandon W. Schreiber, 32, Kentland, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Carl Foundation Hospital of Urbana, Ill. after being shot in the line of duty in Sheldon, Ill. Brandon was born Oct. 16, 1991, in Crown Point, to the late Joseph Schreiber and Lorraine (Gynn) Schreiber. He was a 2010 graduate of Hanover Central where he played baseball and ran cross-country. On June 3, 2017, he married his best friend and love of his life, Kaitlin Nichols, at her parent's farm in Lowell. Together the two would have two children, Seth and Paisley. As a family, they enjoyed spending time together camping, working their horses at the stable and taking care of their garden and goats. The kids loved playing with Brandon and spending time wherever they went. Brandon was the quiet protector of the family. Every morning, Brandon would tell Kaitlin, "I love you... promise". Brandon cherished the friendships and brotherhood made at his job with the Newton County Sheriff's Department. He enjoyed protecting and serving others and always made sure to be a light of empathy even in the toughest of situations. Brandon always put others needs above his own, always wanting to make sure others were ok first. He was a deputy at the Sheriff's Department for eight years, the last five full-time. Prior to working as a deputy, Brandon was a Crane Operator for Finkle Steel in Chicago, Ill. Brandon was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting at the range. Spending time with his family and friends was what he loved the most. Surviving with his wife, Kaitlin are their two children, Seth and Paisley; his mother, Lorraine Schreiber; three sisters, Ashley (Adam) Schweller, Maryjane (Brandon) Manno and Phoenix Schreiber; his grandfather, Vernon Schreiber; grandmother, Katherine Gynn, in-laws, Seth and Patti Nichols; and a sister-in-law, Andria (Christopher) Watt. Brandon is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Schreiber. A visitation will be held from 2 - 7 p.m. CST Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Newton County Fairgrounds (12189 S. Punkin Vine Road, Kentland). Funeral services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. CST Friday, Sept. 20, also at the Newton County Fairgrounds; Pastor Perry McLemore to officiate. Memorials are encouraged to the Schreiber Family Benefit Account to assist with the family and may be given during service times, taken to or mailed to the Kentland Bank (P.O. Box 145, Kentland, Ind., 47951). The family would also like to thank the Carl Hospital Trauma Team for their efforts, care and support for Brandon. His friends at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home are honored to assist with Brandon's services.

Paul John Sarpalius, age 81, of Oak Lawn, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL; retired patrolman with C.P.D. passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Beloved husband of Carol nee Komperda; loving father of John (Heather) Sarpalius, Jennifer Pavone, Joseph Sarpalius and James Sarpalius; cherished grandfather of A.J., Nicholas, Brienne, Gianna and Shayne; dearest brother of the late John (Judy) Sarpalius. Michael J. Wiczus, age 67, Retired Chicago Firefighter of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Beloved son of the late Stanley and the late Mary Wiczus; loving brother of Juliann (Timothy); dear uncle to Kelly and Lindsay and great uncle to Alyssa, Bennett and Cooper. Michael was a vintage car enthusiast. He loved to restore vintage cars. His memory will be cherished by his close friends Danny and Billy, along with many other close friends, and all who knew and loved him. A visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 family and friends gathering from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home. Interment at St. Casimir Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
