2013 WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES, BELFAST

Northern Ireland is hosting this year’s World Police and Fire Games from 1st – 10th August and Police Officers from across the United States are promised the warmest welcome ever, not to mention world class sporting venues, outstanding accommodation, amazing food, beautiful scenery, tremendous ‘craic’ and the very best of our home brewed Guinness!

Registrations are coming in thick and fast from all over the world so the competition in each of the 56 sports featured is going to be immense. But time is rushing on and we’re now encouraging any potential athletes, and particularly those members of a team, to register now without delay and certainly before 24th May 2013. On that date if your team has not received the minimum number of registered team members you may miss out on competing in this amazing ‘Olympic’ style international event.

Another incentive for immediate registration is to benefit from the lower competitor registration fees which increase by $15 on 1st June 2013. The online registration system is easy – just go to www.2013wpfg.com and click on the ‘Register for the Games!’ button. You can not only complete your registration, but also book accommodation through our dedicated reservation service which includes preferential rates for competitors.

US COMPETITORS

There are already over 700 competitors registered from the US including:

Ashley Ricci , from the New York Police Department based in Harlem. Ashley will be competing in the first every Women’s Rugby event to be held at a WPFG. Says Ashley, “When I learned that Women’s Rugby was being offered at the Games in Belfast for the first time, I jumped at the chance to compete internationally and be part of this fast growing sport for women. My training is well underway....see you there!”

Michael Fossum is a police officer from Minneapolis who has already competed in 3 previous Games. He fell in love with Ireland many years ago and is looking forward to a return trip with his family when he plans to explore the many beautiful locations around Northern Ireland. Apart from competing in the cross country event, Michael says that the Games “are a special sporting event because it brings public safety personnel from all over the world together for friendly competition, the sharing of “war” stories and to find common ground in the jobs we all perform.”

Retired police officer Greg Mullendore from the California Highway Patrol has been competing in the Games since 1985! His goal is to medal in bench press and push-pull but he highly recommends the Toughest Competitor Alive event. For Greg the Games are “like a home coming. I have friends from Spain, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago. The camaraderie is amazing and I can’t wait to be back with friends we have met in prior Games.”
