REMEMBERING MIKE DOOLEY

SOMETIMES IT’S APPROPRIATE TO REFLECT ON SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE, WHO MADE A LASTING
> IMPRESSION ON YOU AND OTHERS. SUCH A PERSON IS MY GOOD FRIEND MIKE
> DOOLEY, WHO PASSED AWAY SUNDAY, JULY 7TH AFTER COPING WITH RECENT
> HEALTH ISSUES.
MIKE WAS A CAREER CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER, WHO WORKED
> HIS LATER YEARS AS A YOUTH OFFICER IN THE OLD AREA 6. BESIDES HIS
> REGULAR JOB DUTIES, HE WAS EAGER TO LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE
> POLICE DEPARTMENT. HE WAS PART OF A PANEL OF LIKE-MINDED CO-WORKERS,
> WHO RESEARCHED THE EFFORTS OF OFFICERS WHO SERVED BEFORE US,
> ESPECIALLY THOSE KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. A NUMBER OF THOSE
> MEN HAD FEW OR NO IMMEDIATE SURVIVORS AND SOME HAD NO GRAVE
> MARKERS ON THEIR CEMETERY PLOTS, WHERE THEY REST IN PEACE.
MIKE OFTEN CAME ACROSS OLD POLICE ARTIFACTS AND EAGERLY LEARNED ABOUT THEIR
> HISTORY. HE HELPED ARRANGE THE DISPLAY OF SUCH ITEMS AT THE POLICE
> ACADEMY AND HAD SOME OF HIS OWN IN THE CABINET.
HE WAS ALWAYS READY TO ASSIST THE YOUNGER OFFICERS HE WORKED WITH. HIS SINCERITY AND
> INTEGRITY WERE THE ATTRIBUTES OF HIS PERSONA THAT SERVED HIM WELL, AND ALSO THOSE WHO CAME TO KNOW HIM.
HE TAUGHT SEVERAL CLASSES IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE AT WRIGHT JR. COLLEGE AND
> LATER BECAME AN INSTRUCTOR AT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY.
HE WAS PAST-PRESIDENT OF THE ILLINOIS ACADEMY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE (ILLACAD.ORG) AND HOSTED
> PUBLIC FORUMS FEATURING SPEAKERS FROM THE ACADEMIA OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE.

CURRENT ISSUES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT WERE ADDRESSED AND THE PUBLIC WAS
> INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.
HIS SPIRIT AND FRIENDSHIP WILL LONG BE REMEMBERED. A PRIVATE SERVICE WAS HELD BY HIS FAMILY IN HIS MEMORY.
HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY.
