I thought perhaps you and the membership of the Retired Chicago Police Association might be interested in knowing about this.

The University of Chicago Press has just released "The Wagon and Other Stories from the City" by Martin Preib, a Chicago beat officer. The stories in "The Wagon" are straight from the streets of Chicago—-life and death, criminals and victims, the grit and grind of the daily work of serving and protecting.

John Kass wrote about the book in his “Tribune” column a few weeks ago and said: "It's about the real Chicago, the city of tribes, the city many of you know, not that fictional metropolis sometimes offered in magazines and TV shows."

There is an excerpt at http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/679808.html that will instantly give you the flavor of the book. More about the book is at http://www.press.uchicago.edu/presssite ... 0226679808. The book can be found at local and online bookstores.
