Harold Thomas Dennis of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away August 19, 2025, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 77. He was born November 10, 1947, in Columbus, Georgia, the son of James and Virginia Hooks Dennis. Harold (Harry) proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and later dedicated 30 years of public service as a Police Sergeant in Chicago, Illinois. He was a member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association, Emerald Society of Illinois, Elk's Lodge #1714 BPOE, and Moose Lodge #1953. Harold lived in Mountain Home since moving from Chicago in 2000. He loved spending time outdoors, whether hunting, fishing (FOMF), boating, or golfing. He also had a passion for history. Above all, Harold cherished the time spent with his family and friends, especially his granddaughters. Harold is survived by his daughter, Caryl (John) Giordano of Chicago, IL; former wife, Estella Dennis McEvoy; brother, Larry (Carolyn) Dennis of Fort Pierce, IL; sisters-in-law, Mary Mendoza, Kathy Mendoza, and Sylvia Brucker; granddaughters, Reese, Angelina, and Ava Gianna Giordano of Chicago, IL; and significant other of many years, Shirley Eaves. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Dennis; and brothers-in-law, Nicholas Mendoza, Adrian Mendoza, and Lorenzo Mendoza. Thank you for the excellent care provided by the doctors and nurses (Harold's Angels) of the Baxter Health Gastroenterology Clinic, Sycamore Springs Assisted Living, and Hospice of the Ozarks. Howard proudly served the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department for 36 years, from 1963 to 1999, rising through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant. Known for his unwavering integrity, calm leadership and commitment to justice, he mentored countless officers and left a lasting legacy of service and honor in the department and the community he protected. After Howard’s retirement from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department, Howard was a Crestwood Police Officer and a Crestwood Police K-9 handler.
