Robert Chiappano, Sr..jpg
With great sadness we announce the passing of our cherished husband, and father, Robert “Bob” Chiappano. Bob passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Bob was born, in New York City, NY and raised in Greenwich Village, New York until he joined the United States Air Force. Upon being honorably discharged, he began a career working in Law Enforcement at the New Jersey State Prison, as a Prison Guard, later becoming a full time Police Officer at the Westmont Police Department. Bob faithfully served the citizens of Westmont, until his medical disability prevented him from continuing work on the road. From that moment, Bob became a very active member of the FOP, and was at one point, the oldest living member of the Westmont Police Department. He took great pride in his role as Sgt. And even designed the patch, that is still worn by the police department as of this day! When able to do so, Bob loved tinkering in the garage, and maintaining his home with various projects around the house, often times requiring the purchase of a gadget or two. Earning the beloved nickname “Gadget Man” by his children. You could always count on a story or two about his days in the Air Force, or his time at the Police Department, and bet that it always included some sort of laughter, or joke. But Bob truly loved and respected his time serving others. Bob is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 62 years, Jerilynn Chiappano (Kriz), and four successful and loved children, Alfred Chiappano, Robert (Wendy) Chiappano Jr., Diana (Jim) Selir, and Debbie (Rudy) Richter. Adored grandchildren, Dominic Chiappano, Marina (Thomas) Clark, Quinn Richter, and Amelia Selir. He doted over his grandchildren every chance he got, and always asked the question…”Who loves ya Baby?” Papa does. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Mary Chiappano, and sister Diana Chiappano. Visitation will be at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien on Thursday, August 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. followed by a Chapel Service on Friday, August 29th at 10:00 a.m. Int. Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Obituary information for Robert J. Chiappano, Sr.
