Terry Stadler, 79 years old, passed away on 03/28/2026. Loving husband and best friend of Mary Ann (née Finn) for over 58 years and loving father of Linda (Jack) Nikcevich, Terence (Sarah) Stadler Jr., CFD, David (Gina) Byrd-Stadler, Ann (Jon) Houghton and Michael (Stephanie) Stadler; proud grandfather of 11 (Kelsey, Maddy, Kylie, Grace, Nick, Brendan, Raelyn, Nora, Lucy, Rose and Reilly) and great-grandfather of Antonie. Son of the late Robert and Josephine (née Devine) Stadler and brother to Michael J. Stadler, Joanne Krajci, the late Robert Stadler, Jr., the late MaryKay Burke, and the late Peggy McCarron,

Born March 25, 1947, raised on the Southeast side of Chicago as an Irish Catholic Democrat, graduating from St. Felicitas in 1961, Mount Carmel HS in 1965, the University of Illinois in 1969 (BSEE), Northwestern University in 1974 (MBA) and Catholic Theological Union in 1997 (MAPS).Terry spent 27 years with Illinois Bell, AT&T, and Ameritech. He led the IBT Public (Coin) Division, responsible for over 80,000 public phones in Illinois. Additionally, he was a key member of the Ameritech Corporate Strategy Department. He retired in 1996.

1997 marked the beginning of his second act. Terry became a certified Lay Ecclesial Minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago and served as a Pastoral Associate at St. Mary of Celle Parish in Berwyn. He became Director of the Lay Formation Program at Catholic Theological Union, until his second retirement in July 2014. Terry and Mary were awarded the Archdiocese of Chicago’s “Christifideles Award in Recognition of Generous Service in the Life of the Church” at St. John of the Cross Parish.

Terry first visited the holy ground of Ireland in 2002 with Linda, Terry Jr., and Ann. He became a dual citizen, returning to Ireland 42 times, either alone or with family and friends, writing, reflecting, and absorbing the West of Ireland, as well as the occasional visit (so as “not to wear out his welcome”) with his relatives: the Devines of Mohill, County Leitrim, the Diffleys of Mohill and Dublin, the Beirnes of Dublin, and his “adopted” Irish family, James and Sheila McLaughlin near Malin Head, County Donegal.

Terry was extremely proud of his wife, Mary, his five children and their spouses, his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. He deeply loved his family and was a tremendous role model, personifying the fruits of the Spirit. A Christ-like man, gentle, thoughtful, steady, smart, wise, an investor in people, intentional, and “so Irish.” To our beloved Turlough, we say, Solas Mhic Dé ar a n-anam.
