Lawrence "Larry" Henry Bartoli, of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026.
Born January 10, 1938 to the late Charles "Chucky" Bartoli and Marguerite (née Walters) Bartoli. Larry was born and raised in the city of Chicago, creating memories and mischief throughout the years.
He attended Waller High School, now known as Lincoln Park High School. In true Larry fashion, he left a little piece of himself behind there, quite literally. If you look closely at one of the first-floor windows facing Armitage, you may still find his name carved into the wood near the window he was known to crawl out of when skipping class. Sometimes with a little help from his dear friend Mona to keep him from getting caught.
Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army before beginning a career with the Chicago Police Department. As a Chicago police officer, he wore star number 7315 and he was assigned to beat 1911 for the majority of his 33 year career. Working this beat became so much a part of him that his license plate later read IAM1911.
Retirement, however, was never really Larry’s style. He was someone who always needed somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to see. After his years with the Chicago Police Department, he continued working as a car porter at Avis Car Rental on LaSalle and then a security guard at Truman College City Colleges of Chicago. Remarkably, Larry continued working until only about two months before his passing. Staying busy was simply part of who he was.
Larry was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, veteran, police officer, friend, and neighbor. More than anything, he was a man who would do whatever he could to help someone, no matter the cost or inconvenience. If Larry could not personally solve your problem, chances were good that he “knew a guy, who knew a guy, who knew a guy” who could.
His family meant absolutely everything to him. Larry never missed an opportunity to brag about his children and grandchildren, whether the person listening had asked or not. He was endlessly proud of them and happiest when he was surrounded by the people he loved.
Larry was also one of the funniest people you could ever meet. He was always ready with a joke, a story, or a perfectly timed comment, and he rarely passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh. He had a way of turning an ordinary gathering into something memorable simply by being there.
He loved to read just about anything he could get his hands on, from the Chicago Tribune to maps, military, jets, & automobiles magazines. Cars were one of his greatest passions. He collected classic cars, remained active in the Chicago Gearheads Car Club, and could happily spend hours talking about them.
When he was not working or talking cars, Larry could often be found taking care of his home and garden in Chicago or working around the family cottage in Buffalo, Indiana. There was always a project to tackle, something that needed fixing, or something he believed could be made just a little bit better.
He also dearly loved his maltese dogs, Sophie and Joey, who preceded him in death and brought him years of companionship and joy.
For all of his hobbies, jobs, stories, cars, and adventures, some of Larry’s favorite moments were also the simplest: sitting down with pizza from Pete’s or ice cream at Margie's Candies, surrounded by his family. You knew it had been a particularly good day if there was a Dewar’s scotch on the rocks with a splash of water nearby.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda Bartoli (née Ewald); his three children, Laura Bartoli, Daniel “Dan” Bartoli and his wife, Julie Bartoli (née Sonnicksen), and Mary Schuster (née Bartoli) and her husband, Robert “Rob” Schuster.
He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Dana and her husband Benjamin Seapno & Jamie Winkle; Stephanie, Jennifer, and Madeline Bartoli; & Megan and Zachary Schuster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles ”Chucky” and Marguerite (née Walters) Bartoli; his brother Ronald “Ronnie” and his wife Nancy Bartoli; his stepson Mark Schultz; his first wife Anna “Cookie” Bartoli (née Piontowski); and his son-in-law Timothy “Tim” Winkle.
Larry leaves behind 88 years of stories, laughter, hard work, generosity, and love. His family will remember the man who was never quite ready to sit still, who always had another place to be or person to visit, who could make an entire room laugh, and who would drop everything to help the people he cared about.
There will never be another Larry Bartoli, and those fortunate enough to have known him will have plenty of stories to keep telling for years to come.

William “Bill” R. Jacoby , beloved husband, father, veteran, policeman, and teacher passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was the devoted husband of Nancy (nee Phelan) and loving father of Gina (Derek) and Billy. He was a cherished son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen Jacoby (nee Winkle) and Chester Jacoby.
William lived a life defined by service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve before dedicating 30 years to the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he began a second career as a special education teacher.
When he wasn’t working, Bill was happiest outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, some of his favorite days were spent at the farm or out on his boat. Whether he had a fishing pole in his hand, was preparing for a hunt, or simply enjoying time away from the noise of everyday life, the outdoors was where he felt most at home.
Bill accomplished much throughout his life and proudly wore many titles—soldier, police officer, teacher, fisherman, and hunter. But above all else, he was a husband and a dad. His greatest legacy is found not in the years he served or the careers he held, but in the family he loved and the memories they will carry forward.
William will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on in the family, friends, and countless lives he touched throughout his years of service.
