Daniel T. Gallagher Obituary
Daniel "Danny" T. Gallagher, a dedicated public servant and a man who truly loved people, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, following a brief illness. He was 66 years old.
Danny was born on September 7, 1960, to Francis and Winifred (Anne) Gallagher. A lifelong Chicagoan, he dedicated his career to protecting and serving his hometown. He graduated from St. Patrick's High school before attending the Police Academy. Danny served as a Chicago Police Officer for 20 years, earning the respect of his colleagues and the community before his well-deserved retirement in January 2018.
Long before putting on the badge, Danny was a familiar face behind the wheel. In his earlier years, he drove a Chicago city cab, always taking pride in making sure people got where they needed to go safely. After retiring from the police force, Danny returned to his roots, driving for Lyft and Uber. For Danny, driving wasn't just a job it was a way to connect with others. He genuinely loved people, possessed an easygoing charm, and could strike up a conversation with anyone who sat in his car.
From his youth, Danny had a passion for the golf course. One of his proudest personal achievements was being named Caddie of the Year during his high school and early twenties. He carried that love for golf throughout his life, spending countless hours on the greens. He also cherished relaxing with his immense circle of friends enjoying countless nights on the Rooftop. Go Cubs!
Above all else, family and friends were the anchor of Danny’s life. He was a devoted brother and a deeply proud uncle who treasured every moment spent with his nieces and nephews.
Danny is survived by his loving sister, Kathy Eastman; his brothers, Patrick (Amore) Gallagher and John Gallagher; his cherished nieces, Katie (Jeff) Hillesheim, Tara (Scott) Walters, Annie (Ryan) Campbell, and Lisa (Greg) Turley; and his nephews, Jay (Jeri), Eastman, Steven Gallager, and Will (Elizabeth) Seviour. He also leaves behind many extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss his warmth and generous spirit.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Francis and Winifred (Anne) Gallagher; his brothers, Michael and William Gallagher; brother-in-law Joe Eastman; his paternal grandparents, John and Anne (Mullarkey) Gallagher; and his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Winifred (Lil Ryan) McGrory.
Uncle Danny, you are already greatly missed. We will miss seeing your name light up on our phones. Those phone calls that seemed to always come at the right time. We will miss hearing your voice on the other end, your perfectly timed one liners, and your unmistakable sense of humor. Save a tee time for us up in heaven! May your final round be your best one yet, with perfect weather, a cold drink, straight drives, and no lost balls!
Visitation will be Saturday, October 10th from 10am until time of funeral Mass 11am at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church 1321 N. Burning Bush Lane Mt. Prospect, IL 60056.
