Kevin Allen, 80, of Chicago, passed away after a battle with lung cancer on April 7, 2022. Born on April 25, 1941, Kevin grew up in Visitation Parish on Chicago's South Side and attended the Chicago Vocational High School, where he enjoyed and took pride in pursuing technical career courses and playing football. Following high school, Kevin enrolled in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at a number of stateside camps, including boot camp in Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Fort Benning, Georgia; and the Arlington Heights Air Defense Site, which has since been converted into a park district. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Kevin's career continued at People's Gas until he entered the Chicago Fire Academy in 1968 to pursue its mentally and physically rigorous six-month training program to become a firefighter. He spent the next 29 years serving as a firefighter. He was a proud member of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 and he attended union events regularly for as long as he was able. Kevin retired from the fire department as a lieutenant in 1998. While raising his family with his wife, Minnie, and launching a family real-estate business that grew to include numerous properties in the City of Chicago. A proud lifelong resident of the City of Chicago, Kevin also enjoyed spending time at the family's house in Grand Beach, Michigan, where the Allens hosted many large gatherings and holidays for their immediate and extended families. He also enjoyed Vis Boys lunches and was an avid volunteer at and supporter of Misericordia Heart of Mercy, where his daughter Lyn resides. He could be found annually in Rogers Park at Sheridan and Devon for Misericordia's Candy Days and frying chicken at Family Fest. Kevin is the beloved husband of Minnie (Pike), the loving father of Lyn, Kara (Earle Atwater), and Sarah (Michael Allen), the loving grandfather of Nora, Addison, Harper, Cormac, and Kevin. He is survived by his brother Dennis Allen, sister Donna Donnelly. He is the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Ann (O'Shaughnessy) and James Allen, his brother Raymond Kelly, and his sister Barbara Lencki. Visitation will be Tuesday April 12, 2022, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Church, 3546 N. Paulina Street, Chicago, Illinois 60657. Funeral mass will immediately follow visitation. Anthony Luzin, 85, longtime resident of Chicago (Edison Park) and a Chicago Police officer for 28 years, died on Sunday, April 3, 2022 in Boca Raton, Florida. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1957. In his retirement, he relocated to Scarborough, Maine where he made many friends and enjoyed all his new home had to offer. He is survived by his wife, Frances (FJ) nee Pianetto of 58 years and two children, Anthony (Robin) Luzin Jr. and Christine (John) Massengill; a sister, Diane (Dan) Jursa; FJ's sister Marie and her husband Richard Hacker who also was a childhood friend of Tony. He adored his three granddaughters, Mackenzie Luzin, Melissa and Courtney Massengill, and was a fond Uncle. Big Tony as he was known by many, was an avid fisherman, loved the water and was an excellent handyman. Tony enjoyed his annual trip with his fishing buddies to either Wisconsin or Lac Seul Canada for over 20 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed assisting at Sudzie Autowash in Scarborough, Maine meeting and greeting many from the community. He will be missed by his many friends, extended family and all whom he crossed paths with wherever he lived or traveled. During these extraordinary stressful times EAP continues to look for ways to serve our Department and family members. With the pandemic there are hundreds of department members who are struggling emotionally while they battle the COVID-19 Virus. In order to reach those members, support groups on Microsoft Teams will begin. Individual sessions are provided upon request. Assistance is needed to help identify those on the Medical with COVID-19 and making them aware of the support groups.
