Michael J. Carone, 87, passed away January 24, 2023. Proud Army Veteran. Retired Chicago Police Officer after 40 years of service. Beloved husband of Darlene for 57 wonderful years. Loving son of the late Vincenzo and Jennie Carone. Dear brother of the late Sam (the late Geraldine) Carone, Rosemarie (Stewart) Channon. Cherished uncle of Victoria Calandra, Vance Auney, Donna Carone, Debby Estep. Visitation will be Sunday, January 29, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W Lawrence Ave, Norridge. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, then proceed to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Northlake, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Susan Andrea Palmer, age 69, of Chandler, Arizona passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Palmer, Retired Chicago Police Officer, Children-Leia (Peter) Lambrinakos, Elisabeth Palmer, Michael ( Annie) Palmer, and Grandson, James Lambrinakos. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Strosinski and Helene Strosinski, nee St. Jean, and her brother Thomas Strosinski. Susan was a flight attendant for Republic Airlines for many years and also worked ground service for America West Airlines. She loved the aviation industry, spring training, gardening, her cuddly canines, Roscoe and Ellie, but, most of all, she loved and enjoyed her family. A visitation for Susan will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248. (Alexa), Joseph, CPD (Brenna) and Kevin Shanahan, Thomas (Val), Mary Kate (Dominic) Barraco, Sean (Lisa) and Neal (Sarah) Ruane, Martin, Jack, Grace and the late Maeve Burke, Sam, CFD, Max, Ben and Danielle Shanahan and Kara, Amelia and Matthew Shanahan. Stephen T. "Steve" Vrtis, age 77, U.S. Marine Corps CPL E4 Vietnam Veteran and Retired Chicago Police Officer. Beloved husband of Guiyang "Jenny" nee Huang. Loving father of Thomas (Nicole) Vrtis and Michelle (Kenneth) Prosser and step-father of Junhua (Yirong Ou) Diao. Cherished grandfather of Abigail, Emily and Oscar. Dear brother of Joseph Vrtis, Tim Vrtis, Barbara Allerton, Jeff Vrtis, Mark Vrtis and the late Bill Vrtis and Bernice Vrtis. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Steve retired from the Chicago Police Department after 34 years of service. He loved running in marathons and really enjoyed outdoor activities--especially golfing and skiing. The Chicago Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and Exelon have partnered with the national Wills for Heroes Foundation to offer this service in Chicago. The Chicago Bar Association is currently scheduling appointments for in-person clinics to be held at Chicago Public Safety Headquarters, 3510 South Michigan Avenue. All clinics are held on Saturday mornings and the appointment takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Appointments will be scheduled at 0900, 1000 and 1100.
