Leonard P. Conrad was born on July 12, 1930, in Evanston, IL, to Peter and Caroline (nee Klein) Conrad. He died on February 16, 2023, at Northwest Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Len was a veteran of the United States Army. Len retired from the Evanston Fire Department where he was a firefighter as well as a medical officer and paramedic. He also retired from working at Evanston Hospital & Glenbrook Hospital as their Fire & Safety Director. He was also the Former Fire Chief of the Tri-State Fire Protection District in Darien, IL. He was a member of the American Legion Post 208 in Arlington Heights, the Knights of Columbus in Evanston as well as the Loyal Order of Moose in Waukegan. Len is survived by his spouse of over 65 years, Elsie Mae (nee Borre) Conrad; his children, Sandra L. (Mark) Kowalski, Debra A. Conrad and Allan T. (Brenda) Conrad; his grandchildren, Alexander (Christina) Kowalski, Garrett Kowalski, Kylie Conrad and Luke Conrad; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his 9 siblings. Visitation Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004 and on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or Masses would be appreciated. Review and Comment on Current and Draft Department Directives As part of the Department’s ongoing mission to provide its members a meaningful opportunity to comment on Department policies and grow trust within the communities we serve, Department members are advised that several current and revised Department directives are available for review and comment by both Department members and the general public. These directives include: Use of Social Media Outlets draft – Until February 17, 2023; Search Warrants draft and the Search Warrant Community Resources and Referrals Pilot Program – Until March 2, 2023; Community Engagement in Policy Development – Pilot Program – Until March 12, 2023; People with Disabilities – Until March 31, 2023. At the conclusion of the comment period, all submitted comments will be reviewed and a finalized version of the directives will be published.
