Joseph Francis McElligott, age 85, of Crystal River, Florida passed away on March 2, 2023 in the care of his loving family and Vitas Hospice of Citrus County. Joe was born in Chicago, IL on March 20,1937 to the late James McElligott and Evelyn Schultz. He moved to the Crystal River area in 2002. Joe was a retired police officer having worked for the Chicago Police Department, The Special Prosecutions Unit, The Dixmoor Police Department and The Blue Island Police Department which he retired from in 2002. He was a member of the FOP, the Emerald Society, Windy City Veterans and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Before becoming a police officer Joe was an over the road truck driver for many years. Joe is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his son James, his daughter Cheryl, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Private cremation arrangements with Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, Lecanto, FL.

The Law Enforcement Hockey Classic to benefit Honor Flight Chicago returns for its 10th edition at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL. Doors open at 5 p.m. for this exciting, family-friendly evening highlighted by a spirited clash between teams from the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago branch of the FBI. The event includes fun side games like "Chuck-A-Puck," silent auction and raffle items, and a new dedicated youth fun area with more games and activities! Tickets are $25 for adults ($30 at the door) and $10 for kids 12-and-under.Groups of more than 10 can purchase tickets for a special $15 per ticket price by calling the Honor Flight Chicago office at 773-227-8387.
Premium seating at mezzanine-level private tables for up to four persons is available for $125. Dedicated skyboxes are available for groups of up to 15! Review and Comment on Current and Draft Department Directives As part of the Department’s ongoing mission to provide its members a meaningful opportunity to comment on Department policies and grow trust within the communities we serve, Department members are advised that several current and revised Department directives are available for review and comment by both Department members and the general public. These directives include: Use of Social Media Outlets draft – Until February 17, 2023; Search Warrants draft and the Search Warrant Community Resources and Referrals Pilot Program – Until March 2, 2023; Community Engagement in Policy Development – Pilot Program – Until March 12, 2023; People with Disabilities – Until March 31, 2023. At the conclusion of the comment period, all submitted comments will be reviewed and a finalized version of the directives will be published. Department members may review and comment on the directives by visiting CPD’s Reform website at chicagopolice.org/reform or The Wire. To provide comments on the directives via the Wire, locate the “Policy Review” link which can be found under the “Department Information” widget.
