Joseph Gergely, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023 at Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (nee Mahlandt) Gergely; children, Delon (Keith) Schuldt, Joseph (Lynn) Gergely; grandchildren, Joseph Gergely, and Tiffani Gergely; and his twin sister Joyce (Late Jack) Renbrook. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Josephine Gergely; and his brother Richard "Dick" Gergely. Joseph, a former resident of Chicago, Riverdale, and New Lenox, was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served as a Riverdale Reserve Police Officer. He worked over 30 years at Exelon (formally ComEd) where he was a lineman, manager of transportation garage and electrician until he retired in 1994. He was a handy man that was able to fix virtually anything. He had a slogan, "Made by man, fixed by Joe." He was an avid golfer and a devoted Blackhawks fan. He and his wife Barbara loved to go out dancing when they could, and were very successful at it, bringing home many trophies over the years. Overall, Joe loved his family, friends, great food, good drinks and lending a helping hand. He was an incredibly devoted husband and an amazing father. In his most recent years, he was his grandchildren's greatest cheerleader and supporter. He loved his family deeply, and Joe will be missed by all that knew him. Services for Joe will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, in Frankfort from 12pm until the time of the funeral service at 4pm.
