Lupe Bustos, a beloved retired Chicago police officer, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 79. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (John) Dobbyn, his five granddaughters, Ashley (Tim) Cheek, Jordan (Jacob) Dailey, Sara, Paige, and Keeleigh, his six great-grandchildren, Norah, Tegan, Cora, Margot, Maddox, and Tyson, and his brother Delfino (Perla) Bustos, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ramona and José Bustos and his brothers Carlos, Tony, and Frank Bustos. As one of the older brothers, Lupe carried a sense of responsibility and leadership throughout his life. He dedicated many years of his life to serving and protecting the people of Chicago as a police officer. Lupe's commitment to his duty was unwavering, and he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. Beyond his professional achievements, Lupe was a devoted father and grandpa. He was blessed with a loving daughter, Lisa, who brought immense joy to his life. Lupe cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was always there to offer guidance, support, and love to his family. He took great pride in his family and made a point to attend their many Irish dance competitions, track meets, basketball games, and various other activities. He loved sharing stories of his childhood with his grandkids and sharing his favorite music and artists with them. Lupe had so many interests including, golf, the newest technology, Chicago sports, and great music. One of his favorite things to do was get together with his friends, Al Hracek, Leroy Almanza, Tony Delgado, Moreno Bulleri, Ralph Reyna, Roy Santos, Bob Schumer, John (Lupe) Delgado, Al Cech, Rich Salas, Ed Kwitkowski, Tony Kulak, Mike Kowalski, Don Bolek, John Valitis, Carl Davis, Bob Murphy and cousin, Tom Ramos. Despite his accomplishments and interests, Lupe's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He dedicated much of his life to being the best dad and grandpa that he could be, filling our lives with so many fun memories and lots of laughter. Lupe Bustos was a dedicated police officer, a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by so many. May his memory live on in our hearts, and may his legacy inspire us to lead with integrity and embrace the joy in life. Rest in peace, Lupe. A celebration of his life will be held on May 27, 2023, at 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with a short memorial prayer service immediately following, at the Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home in Joliet, IL, where friends and loved ones can gather to share stories and remember a wonderful man. William Joseph Struke, Ret. CPD Explosives Technician with CPD Bomb Squad, age 85 of Park Ridge, Illinois passed away on Monday, May 22nd, 2023. Ronald Mark Walsh, 63, retired Explosives Technician on the CPD Bomb Squad on May 16, 2023 in Fort Myers, Florida. Survived by his widow, Mindy Gray Walsh, his brother, Lawrence (retired CFD), sister Kathleen Walsh-Michalski (Greg), nieces Raquel Walsh (Chuck) and Christine Alicea (Sergio), nephews Richard J. Walsh and Michael Walsh. He was preceded in death by his father, John (retired CPD), and his mother, Elaine, his brothers, John R. "Rick" (CPD), and Michael. Additionally, He left step children Nicolas Gray, Alex Gray (Meghan), Barry Gray (Cara) and Katherine Gray and step grandchildren Charlotte, Olivia, Virginia and Addison Gray. On 15 May 2023 at 2200 hours two victims were walking E/B on Cortland when they observed both offenders to have the sidewalk blocked with bicycles. Both victims turned around and walked the other way, at which time both offenders approached the victims from behind saying “purse, purse, purse,” both victims complied and dropped their purses, one offender then pointed a handgun at the victims and fired one gunshot at them striking one victim in her lower left leg. Both offenders then fled on their bicycles. The victim was transported to Humboldt Health by CFD #52 and later transferred to Stroger Hospital in Good Condition. Responding 014th District officers having a description of the offenders, toured the area. 014th District Officers observed the offenders matching the description to be on bicycles and removing gloves. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit. Offender #1 was detained and positively identified in a show up on scene by the victim. Offender #1 was placed into custody and transported to Area 5. The second offender made good on his escape. Felony review was contacted and the offender in custody was subsequently charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Attempted Armed Robbery and one count of Aggravated Battery with a firearm. Due to Officers dedication to duty, patience, investigative skills, and ability to bring this case to a successful conclusion, a dangerous Robbery Offender was removed from streets of Chicago.
