John J. "Jack" Halpin, born July 20, 1944, died June 24, 2023 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, alumnus of St. Theodore, St. Rita of Cascia HS, and Loyola University, he served in the US Army before joining the Chicago Police Department in 1969. Over his 31-year career, he worked a variety of assignments, including time spent at the Area 1 Task Force (the Big Red One), Police Headquarters, Gang Crimes, 006th District (Gresham), and the Vice & Asset Forfeiture Division (Maxwell Street). He ended his career as a Lieutenant in the 009th District (Deering). He was a member of FOP Lodge #7 and the CPD Lieutenants Association. John was husband of nearly 50 years to Barbara Jane, the BEST father to Mary Kate and John, loving father-in-law to Barbara and adored "Poppy" to his grandchildren "Main man" Ben, Sadie Lady, Fantastic Faye and Declan "Deco the Wrecko." He was a beloved brother to Kathleen "Sis" (Paul) Bronson, and the late Pat (Clare) Halpin, Noni (Dan) O'Connell, and Mamie (Lou) Lurgio; a fond brother-in-law of Liz, John, Joseph (Roz) and Jeff Bremser; and favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a dear friend and loyal confidante to countless others. He will be greatly missed by all. Private family services are planned in accordance with his wishes. Rather than mourning his passing, John wanted the people who cared about him to spend time with their own friends and family or to donate to the charity of their choice. An informal celebration of his life is planned for the weekend of August 4th in the Milwaukee area. His family has set up an email (JackHalpin1944@gmail.com) for anyone wanting details.
