INFORMATION FROM PHIL HASKETT (RET)

Helen M. Koutnik, Chicago, entered eternal life at 9:42 PM on July 6, 2023 in the presence of her family. She was born July 27, 1934 in Chicago to Frank and Marie Sagula . Helen was very proud of her career as Secretary to the President of First National Bank. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Frank, who was a policeman posted to the area. Helen and Frank raised four energetic sons, John, Jeffrey, James, and Jerome, who all attended St. Helen Parish where she was President of the Mothers' Club. She lavished love and attention on her children and cherished her grandchildren. She was President of the Parents' Club of St. Patrick High School on the north side where her 4 boys attended and was a very proud supporter. Helen dedicated her life to caring for others whether they were her family, strangers or newly arrived Polish Immigrants. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a staunch pro-life advocate. She made countless friends, including several priests, in the many parishes she attended. Helen later worked in the insurance industry for Joseph T. Barron Insurance and in the Pastoral Care department at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Frank, her sons, James and John, stepson, Frank Jr. and her grandson, James. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Koutnik, (Denise), Reverend Jerome Koutnik, her daughter-in-law, Theresa, and grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Ryan, Kelly, Patrick and Samantha, and her brother, Frank Sagula (Gloria). Visitation will take place at St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee Rd., Huntley, IL 60142 on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 9:00 AM, followed by Holy Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial at St. Adalbert is private.
