Leona "Lee" Rose Mizera,(nee Szymanski) age 91, Beloved wife to the late Dr. Thaddeus F. Mizera, loving Mother of Ret. Sgt. CPD Bob (Margie) Mizera, Ken (Kim) Mizera, Larry (Lisa) Mizera, Renee (Dan) Gresla, and Lauren (Greg) Pertle. Proud Grandma, Bugga, G-Ma to Ashlee (Tim), Katie (Chris), Mallory (Steve), Ashley, Matt (Emily), Elizabeth (Patrick), Megan (Ben), Joe (Kari), Mary (Brennan), Chrisi, Ben, Gregory, and Maddy. Adoring Great Grandmother to Evan, Liam, Claire, Ryan, Camden, Cooper, Ollie and Noah. Dear daughter of the late Martin and Mary Szymanski. Cherished sister of the late Edward Szymanski. Chosen family to Sandra and Al Lewis. Fond Aunt to her nieces and nephews. Leona was born in Chicago on December 28th, 1931. She grew up in the Gage Park neighborhood and excelled at Gage Park High. She then attended Elgin Radiology School. She met Thaddeus (Ted) and they were married in 1953. Ted was a GP Doctor who established his medical practice on the Southwest Side of Chicago and was an attending physician at Little Company of Mary Hospital. Lee was the rock for both Ted and the 5 children they would have together. She helped run the practice and managed the family. After Ted’s passing in 1983, Lee moved on to the hospitality business becoming the banquet manager at several high-profile venues ending with nearly 20 years at the Oak Lawn Hilton. She also spent time with Evelyn Echols training future leaders in the hospitality space. While Lee was very successful in business and worked until she was 78, her pride and joy was her family. Her kids, grandkids and great grandkids were her primary focus later in life. She travelled extensively with her family to many parts of the country and the world. She rarely missed a sporting event, dance recital, or graduation. In recent years, the great grandkids or “Littles” as she would call them brought her a new found enthusiasm. She would often babysit and loved the family gatherings during birthdays and holidays. We are thankful for the numerous celebrations the family had with her in recent years. Our hearts ache with the loss of the Family Matriarch but the memories will live forever. To the World she was a Mother but to her family she was the World. Visitation Friday, July 21st from 3pm-8pm at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W 151st St. Orland Park, IL. Family and Friends to gather Saturday, July 22nd at 11:20 a.m. for a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:30am at St. George Catholic Church 6707 175th St., Tinley Park, IL. Internment will be private at a later date at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum. Donations in Leona’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 using the link here https://raise.stjude.org/fundraiser/4807471 or please consider donating to NAWS a No-Kill humane society https://www.paypal.com/US/fundraiser/charity/1650516.
