Kenneth Dale Clark, Age 74 of Mokena, IL formerly of Tinley Park. Passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. Kenneth, fondly known as Kenny or Papa, was born to the late Kenneth and Laverne (nee Lyman) Clark on December 10, 1948 in Chicago, IL. He enlisted and served in Vietnam from 1967 – 1969 as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army Airborne Battalion. Afterward, Kenny served as a Chicago Police Officer before going into private business where he retired after 23 years. Devoted husband of Maribeth Clark (nee Wall). Loving father of Brian Clark, Kevin (Jess) Clark, Katelyn Ovalle, Bob (Sarah) Johnson, and the late Tim Clark. Cherished Papa of Andrew, Brooklyn, Colin, Conor and Brady. Kenny is preceded in death by his sister Denise Smith. Kenny valued time with his family. He laughed with his cousins, regularly went to lunches with his friends and got plenty of Diet Cokes and Portillos with his wife Maribeth. Kenny loved telling stories, but what brought him the most joy was watching his kids, their spouses and the grandkids all get along and spend time together. Visitation Saturday 9 a.m. until time of Service 1 p.m. at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st Street, Orland Park, IL. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org would be appreciated. Please leave a memory for the family on Kenny’s Tribute Wall; your stories will bring comfort to his family. www.sheehyfh.com 708-857-7878.

(Harry Vafiadis was a well-known and loved Sergeant from the First District!)

I’m forwarding. the following information as I received it from Retired CPD Sergeant Al Piantkowski.

“I received the attached email below from John Vafiadis, Harry's son about the loss of his mom, Mary, Harry's wife.

It is being sent as received.

Keep the entire Vafiadis family in your thoughts and prayers...”

“Good morning Al,

My mom died peacefully in her sleep at home last night in Fountain Hills, AZ. She turned 90 on July 14. I don't even know how to attribute the cause of death. She fell in early April and broke her tibia in three places. She was surgically repaired but never completely healed and spent two and a half months in and out of the hospital and rehab centers and her health deteriorated. She returned home to hospice two weeks ago. Her death was anticipated due to her being unresponsive for her final four days (without food and water). Her remains will be flown to Illinois, and she will be buried with my dad in the Abraham Lincoln Veterans Cemetery.

John”
