John R. Allanson, a loving father, brother, husband, and friend, passed away on May 23, 2023, in his hometown of Chicago, IL, just days before his 79th birthday. John is survived by his daughter Brenda and son-in-law Ray and his sisters Pat and Janet. He is mourned by his stepdaughters Karla, Kelly (husband: Michael, kids: Frankie and Michael), and Kimberly (husband: Eddie, kids: Abigail and Amelia). He was preceded in death by his second wife Rhoda, sister Celeste, and parents John and Ellen. John devoted 37 years to serving the Chicago Police Department. He loved his job and forged friendships within the force, most notably with his partner Mike. Throughout his life, John was an avid sports fan, cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears every chance he got. His love for trivia led to countless days spent at the neighborhood bar watching Jeopardy, where he earned the affectionate nickname "Jeopardy John." His sense of humor was infectious, and he delighted in claiming that every day was his birthday, earning him yet another nickname: "Birthday John." He enjoyed traveling, with Las Vegas being his favorite destination. John loved sharing a meal with others and spoiling his loved ones, as gifting was his way of showing affection. A memorial service to celebrate John Allanson's life is forthcoming in the Chicago area, and details will be shared here once available. In lieu of gifts, the family asks for donations to the American Heart Association at: https://bit.ly/AmerHeartDonationforJohn. (If you prefer to send a gift, please avoid lilies in any form due to allergies.) After his passing, John was eligible to donate tissue through the Gift of Hope organization. His daughter authorized this gift which will help 20 to 25 people with severe burns or those suffering with bone cancer. He will also be able to help two people to see. The family encourages you to register to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at: https://www.giftofhope.org/join-the-registry/ To send flowers to the family of John, please visit our floral store.
