Ronald W. Hield, 82, went to be with his Lord on November 14th, surrounded by his loving family and cherished pets. Ron is survived by his devoted wife Suzanne (née O’Barski) of 47 years, loving children Linda Malysa, Melissa (Jeffery) Strong, Tiffany (Tom) Kotek, Scott (Stacey) Hield, brother Edgar (Loretta) Hield, brother-in-law Dr. Timothy O’Barski, and many nieces and nephews. He was the proud Pop-Pop of Preston Malysa, Madison, Brooklyn and Paul Hield, Olivia Brain and Jordan Strong. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Doris and Paul Hield, and siblings Phyllis Berlin, Richard Hield, and Marlene Van Eck. Ron spent his entire life working in Law Enforcement. He served in the Alsip Police Department from 1968-1972 and went on to serve for 25 years at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. He began as a Patrolman and rose through the ranks to become Captain and Assistant Director of the Department. While there, he received the Special Policeman appointment by the City of Chicago, which gave him full Police powers on campus property. Ron took great pride in his lawn and garden, and even won awards from the city while living in Homewood. He was known for his beautiful Christmas decorations and enjoyed hand-painting holiday ceramics for the entire family. Visitation Friday, November 24th at Maher Funeral Home, 17101 71st Ave., Tinley Park, IL 60477 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Saturday, November 25th prayers at the funeral home at 9:15am, processing to St. George Catholic Church 6707 175th St., Tinley Park, IL 60477 for 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.

SPECIAL EVENT!

On 01 December 1958 the tragic loss of 95 lives occurred at Our Lady of Angels school here in Chicago one of the worst school fires in U.S. History. On Friday 01 December 2023 there will be a mass of remembrance commemorating the 65th year of this horrific tragedy. Services will be at Holy Family Church, (just west of Saint Ignatius College Prep) located at 1114 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, Illinois at 1800 hours, (doors open at 1630), parking adjacent to the church. The celebrant for the mass will be Chicago Fire Department Chaplain Fr. William McFarland and services will commence with the Chicago Fire Department Color Guard. All are welcome to attend, please spread the word. For further information contact retired P.O.
