Kenneth "Ken" R. Gutrich, age 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 9, 2024. Beloved husband of 55 years to Jeanne, nee Sullivan. Loving father of John, C.P.D., Eileen (Brendan) Walsh and Erin (Tony) DiCianni. Adoring grandfather of Maura, Fiona and Cecelia Walsh and Luke and Reagan DiCianni. Dear brother of Mary Kay (Bill) Brown, Janet (Jan) Gutrich and the late Suzanne, Michael, Richard, Thomas, and William. Fond uncle, cousin and friend to many. Retired Athletic Director, basketball coach and teacher at Kelvyn Park High School. Proud alumni of St. Rita High School, Chicago, Illinois graduating class of 1964 and Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa class of 1968, Visitation Tuesday, January 16, from 3 to 9 pm at Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, 6467 N. Northwest Hwy (one block north of Devon), Chicago IL 60631. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church for Funeral Mass Wednesday, January 17th, 11:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 7211 W. John Makar, Jr., retired CPD, age 90; beloved husband of the late Vinnie; loving father of Loranne (Paul M.) May, John Bruno (Cindy) Makar, and Janine Makar; cherished grandfather of Larissa (Christian Dupree), Kristi, Kayla, Johnathan, and Elizabeth; dear son of the late John Sr. and late Mary Makar. John grew up in Chicago and was a graduate of Peck Elementary School (Class of 1947) and Gage Park High School (Class of 1951). John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956 during which time he earned the National Defense Service Medal. John went on to pursue a career with the Chicago Police Department, where he served with honor and pride for 36 years. John enjoyed nature, gardening, cooking, fishing, swimming, biking, and most of all spending time with his beloved family & friends. John was a lifelong and active member of many organizations, including AMVETS Post 18, The American Legion Post 854, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7, Chicago Police Sergeants’ Association, Retired Chicago Police Association, Illinois Police Association, and Croatian Fraternal Union of America Lodge 32. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a prayer service at 4:30 pm, at Kosary Funeral Home, 9837 S. Kedzie Avenue, Evergreen Park, IL. A military interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL on Monday, January 29, 2024, 11:00 am. Gregory Allen Sorenson, of Plainfield, IL, passed away at the age of 55, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Greg was born in Oak Park, IL, on December 6, 1968, the son of the late James and Roberta (nee Lucneti) Sorenson. He grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated in 1987 from Holy Cross High School where he played football and was on the wrestling team. Greg proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Persian Gulf War. He was a Sheriff with the Cook County Department of Corrections for 30 years. In his free time, Greg enjoyed Camping with family and friends, riding his Harley, and was a car enthusiast. Greg is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Victoria (nee Ciancio) Sorenson; children, Kristina Mullen, Samantha Sorenson, Nicholas Sorenson, and Christopher Sorenson; grandson, Mason Skoczen; his brother, James (Nadine) Sorenson, II; and his niece, Shayla Sorenson. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Gregory Allen Sorenson will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Full military honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Navy. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Bureau of Detectives Special Investigations Unit Salutes 017th District Police Officers.

P.O. I. Rodriguez #6393 On 03 Jan 2024,

Officer Rodriguez was investigating a traffic accident and conducted a name check that revealed that an offender had an active investigative alert for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. Officers Cuevas and Manalo were able to assist and contacted the Special Investigations Unit and learned that a female child had been sexually assaulted and had identified the offender by name. The officers were able to take the offender into custody without incident. During the investigation a second victim was discovered. The offender subsequently was charged with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child for the original case and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse for the second victim. The above officer’s dedication has helped take a child predator off the streets of Chicago. Thanks for a job well done!
