Artie Cucci.jpg

Artie C. Cucci, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 26,2024 surrounded by his loving family. A self-proclaimed "Jack of all trades, master of none", his many certifications and careers included: Being co-owner of car dealerships, barber, carpenter, realtor, firefighter of 27 years, retired Fire Marshall, and a devoted father. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine, whom he fell in love with because of her beautiful long hair, how she always laughed at his sense of humor, her love of nature, but mostly, because of her kindness. He is also survived by his two daughters, Tina and Suzzie, "his Spirits of Christmas, his stars on the tree...". He was a good Papa to his grandchildren: Mary, who shares his own mother's blue eyes; Alex who looks like a young version of himself; and Angelo, whose curly hair reminded him of his own baby brother. Artie loved supporting his daughters at their recitals, events, and family adventures, and he would often be found wearing an 80's camcorder on his shoulder to record those precious moments. Awaiting for him in Heaven are his younger brother Sammy and his beloved parents. Also, Grandpa Jack, his birthday twin Marie, his buddy Ralph and his best friend Bob Philbin Sr. He was a friendly patron to many Oak Lawn, Orland Park, and Frankfort establishments. He greeted everyone he met with his ace smile and friendly demeanor, and was recognized by all; and became a friend to so many. Thank you for praying that I have a "safe trip to Heaven" is what he would say. Family and friend will gather for visitation on Friday, March 29, 2024 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home 11028 Southwest Hwy. George Tragos.jpeg

George A Tragos, age 82, at rest March 21, 2024. Proud Veteran of the US Army and member of American Legion Post 0854; Retired CFD. Treasured husband of Christine (nee Samouris) who together recently celebrated their golden anniversary. Devoted father of Elaina Tragos; Loving Papou to Diamond and the late Rufus. Beloved son of the late Athanasios and Helen Tragos; Younger brother of the late Vasiliki Russell and the late Nicholas (Nancy) Tragos; Loved brother in law of Arthur (Ronda) Samouris and Nicholas (Annette) Samouris; Fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. What would you call a man with a nervous stomach and fear of heights who signs up to be a firefighter? You would call him George Tragos. The epitome of a provider, George spent every day putting the needs of his family above his own comfort. George’s top priority was ensuring the safety and security of his family, which led him to a 32 year career with the Chicago Fire Department. Starting in the academy as a candidate, braving the elements with his fellow Brotherhood of the Barrel strikers, moving up the ranks and ending as Commander of the Commissary, George was so proud to be CFD. If allowed, there is no doubt he would have forgotten retirement to continue serving the city he loved. George had few interests, but he pursued them with passion, perfection and the most extreme attention to detail. George took the term green thumb to another level. The lawn in their first home was like lush green carpet and the rose bushes were estate worthy. If George wasn’t cooking at the firehouse, he was cooking at home. A true Greek, George was always in his element in the kitchen. And then there were the Springers. George and Christine found their love of English Springer Spaniels with Sunshine “Sunny,” an illegal resident in their newlywed apartment. The threesome soon found a proper home and Sunshine Kennels was born. Numerous litters and hours spent in the field training, George went on to collect multiple ribbons and trophies. Raising and training puppies with such love and care, George even saved the life of a newborn puppy with mouth to mouth. Maybe it was his CFD training, maybe it was the Metaxa on his breath, either way another life was saved by George’s hands. Dad, you will be missed more than I can ever express. I wish we had more time— more time in the yard together, more time in the kitchen together, more time to talk. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent, but instead make a memorial donation to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation in George’s name. “May His Memory Be Eternal” A church visitation for George A Tragos will be held Friday morning, March 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 11025 S. Roberts Road, Palos Hills, IL 60465. Funeral Service begins 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment with Military Honors Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Arrangements entrusted to Hills Funeral Home. Info. 708-598-5880 or hillsfh.com.
