Kenneth J. Benson, December 30, 1937 – July 9, 2024, Beloved husband of the late Joanne J. Benson. Loving father to Kevin (Karen) Benson and Kelly (Andrew) Tobias. Proud grandfather to Ashley, Ryan, Cody, Carli and Samuel. Dear brother to the late Gerald (Sandra) Benson. Kind Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was the second son of Mae Benson (Cermak) and Nels Benson. He was raised in Cicero where he attended school and joined the army where he served as paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and military police. Upon his discharge he returned home where he met his wife Joanne Benson of 62 years and raised their family. During this time, he joined the Cicero Police department and retired at the rank of Lieutenant after serving proudly for 27 years. In retirement he took a part time job at local hardware stores and continued to help others by fixing and repairing as he had many years’ experiences working side jobs during his career as a policeman. He enjoyed woodworking and could fix most anything. He enjoyed being with people and was always willing to lend a hand. He spent the remainder of his years fishing, spending time with family at their Wisconsin lake home and traveling the world with his wife. He passed peacefully and is eternally at rest with the Lord. Visitation Monday July 15, 2024 from 10:00am until time of Mass, 11:00am at Sacred Heart Parish, 8245 West 111th Street, Palos Hills, IL 60465 Internment Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Albert Ricks of Waukegan, Illinois passed away July 5, 2024 surrounded by family. Albert was born June 19, 1937 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Albert married Marianne on May 16, 1980, in Waukegan, IL. He served 20 years with the United States Navy retiring as Master-at-Arms Chief Petty Officer. Albert served on the USS Hancock, USS Passumpsic, USS Fremont, USS Chilton, USS Krishna and USS Taconic. While in the military and after he earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. After his military service Albert held various positions in the area including, Corrections Officer at the Lake County Jail, Community Service Officer with the Waukegan Police Department and Sergeant Training Officer prior to being promoted to Lieutenant in the Lake County Deputy Reserves. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion post 281 and past commander, Federal Order of Police Lodge 46, 66 and 275, Elks Club 702 past Exalted Ruler, member of the Illinois Police Association and past Chef de Gare at 40 et 8 organization. He also was a driver for Lambs farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed soccer, fishing, reading and crossword puzzles. Albert is survived by his grandchildren, Christy (Bill) Stark, Bruce Rebello Jr, Marianne (Tony) Ambrose, Britney Rebello, Anthony Ferro and Alex Ferro; great grandchildren, Austin, Alycia, Alexis, Ashton, Anthony Jr, Kai and Adeline. He was a father figure to many including God children, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marianne; children, Kathy Rebello, Laura Ferro and Kimberly Ferro and grandson, Josh Tate. Visitation will take place Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, IL from 9:30 to 11:00 am, funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Malcolm Brian Woo, 79, of Chicago, passed away on July 8th, 2024. He was born in Chicago on December 07, 1944 to Raymond and Anita Woo and grew up in Chicago's Chinatown. Malcolm married his loving wife Christine (Tina) on July 20th, 1974. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. Malcolm retired as a Chicago Police Officer, celebrating a remarkable and groundbreaking career as the first Chinese American Chicago police officer to retire with a full career after nearly 30 years of service. He was also a founding member of the national organization Asian American Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) and a board member of the Chinese American Museum of Chicago. Outside of his accomplishments in law enforcement, Malcolm had a passion for family, especially for his grandchildren. Additionally, he loved music, napping, cars, and spending time in Las Vegas. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Raymond and Anita. He is survived by his wife Tina, children Melissa (Ricardo) and son Bradley, grandchildren Naima and Izel, and siblings, Greg, Sharon, and Roland. Funeral arrangements will be at Malec Funeral Home from 2-8 pm on Wednesday July 17th with service starting at 6:30 pm. Our monthly luncheon this month is on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the EAGLE BUFFET IN CASINO ARIZONA, 524 N. 92nd St, Scottsdale, AZ 85256, right off the 101 & 202 at McKellips. The buffet does not open until 11:00 AM. We will check-in at 11:00 AM. Stay in the right line, and please identify that you are with the CPD AZ Retiree Luncheon group. When you pay, the cost of the luncheon is now $25.00, which includes all you can eat, beverage, dessert, tax, and tip. Laura Peterson, the food service manager, is our contact person. She is doing a wonderful job to accommodate our group. They will try to get us through the line and get us seated quickly. We will be in the rear room if it is available.
