Nanci M. Lorenz of Buffalo Grove, IL, Nanci was born on June 9, 1953, in Park Forest, IL to Paul and Lucille (nee Heifner) Messer. She passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 in Arlington Heights. Nanci grew up in Mt. Prospect and graduated from Prospect High School. After graduating from Western Illinois University, she enjoyed a 30-year career with the Glenview Police Department. She delighted in spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed. She found great joy in her pets and was active in area dog clubs for many years. Nanci is survived by her brother-in-law Larry Braun of Mt. Prospect; niece Lindsay (Adam) Johnson of Mt. Prospect; nephew Justin (Tracy) Braun of Cedarburg, WI; and great nieces and nephews, Ella, Delaney and Reese Johnson; and Cooper, Riley and Adeline Braun. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karen M. Braun. Joan M. Slimski, “Joni”, (nee Heaney), age 66. Late of Hegewisch passed away on September 10, 2024. Beloved wife of the late James F. Slimski “Slim”. Loving mother of Carrie Ann (Jose) Gerardi, Katie Marie (Jesse Shaffer) Slimski, Jack Burton (Charity) Slimski and Daniel James (Veronica Moreno) Slimski. Devoted grandmother of Vincent, Jules, Stella and Lucien. Dear daughter of the late Nancy (late Dennis) Donovan. Dearest sister of John (Maryann), Teri, late Patricia, late Gerald, late William and late Virginia. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Joni was a retired crossing guard for the City of Chicago with over 30 years of dedicated service. Joni had a deep love for hosting and cooking elaborate feasts for family and friends. She cherished her close circle of friends, often gathering to play bunko, sharing laughs and memories. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and was a great lover of music. Known for her sharp sense of humor, she could always lighten the mood with a well-timed joke. Above all, she was a dedicated caregiver, selflessly caring for many of her family members throughout her life, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
