Donna L. Thomas John Mason Obituary

It is with great sadness that his family announce that Thomas J. Mason, 84, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away, peacefully, at home, on August 30, 2026. Tom was born June 22, 1942 and remained a lifelong resident of Chicago. He attended Queen of Angels grammar school and was active in Welles Park athletics. After graduating from Lane Technical High School in 1961, Tom worked in Skokie at Signode Corporation and it’s subsidiary Paslode for twenty-five years, before changing careers to work at the Cook County Highway Department, District 2, where he remained until his retirement. Tom was a 54-year member of St. Hilary Parish (now St. Padre Pio), where his presence was felt in every aspect of parish and school life. Tom was an auxiliary minister of communion, and he devoted countless hours in volunteering, notably to the Men’s Club, the Parish Council, the annual parish carnival, and numerous other events, especially his beloved horseshoes tournaments that he organized at Mather Park. Tom was a fixture in ward politics and was always ready to listen to a neighbor for the improvement of his community. Tom was a great storyteller and his laughter and humor will be missed by his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Catherine Mason. Tom is survived by his three children, Tom (Beth) Mason, Regina Mason, and Elizabeth (Angelo) Katsoulis, his grandchildren Ciara, Timothy, and Katherine Mason, his brother Michael (Vicki), and his nephews Daniel (Megan) Mason and Kevin Mason. Visitation Wednesday September 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. till the time of the Mass at 11:00a.m. at St. Hilary Church/ St. Padre Pio Parish. 5600 N. Fairfield Ave. Chicago. Interment, All Saints Cemetery.

Dolores Siggins McGarry

Dolores McGarry, born in Chicago on September 18, 1930, was the daughter of the late Catherine and John Siggins and the beloved wife for more than 50 years of the late Gerald J. McGarry. She passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31st, at the age of 95. She lived a life marked by devotion to her family and her Catholic faith, her boundless energy and an insatiable desire to spend time with her grand and great grandchildren.

Dolores or Dee was known for her warmth, unwavering support of those she loved and a need to feed everyone. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was an avid reader, gifted card shark, and perennial champion of Mexican Train Dominoes, despite impaired vision. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. Her home was a place of comfort, games, laughter and love.

Married October 18, 1952, she is survived by 9 of her 10 children, Michael McGarry (Lynn Libera), Marty McGarry (Mary, nee Burke), Diane McGarry Mrozek (Ernie), Debbie McGarry Calvillo, Stephen McGarry (Joyce, nee Stojak), John McGarry (Rita nee O’Reilly), Patrick McGarry (Susan, nee Clark), Daniel McGarry (Jane, nee Brandt), and Marikay McGarry, as well as 24 grandchildren and 26+ great grandchildren. They will forever cherish her guidance, compassion, and steady presence and attention. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald John McGarry (1932-2004) son, Dennis McGarry (1955 - 2021) and sisters Kathleen McNally and Jean Gaffney and her brother Walter Siggins.

Dee attended Visitation grade and high schools, and then earned a nursing degree at Little Company of Mary Hospital where she made numerous lifelong friendships. She loved her work in labor and delivery floors and worked many years before going back to school where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Lewis University and began working as a Home Health Nurse for the village of Stickney until her retirement from nursing. After retiring Dee and Jerry moved to a lake home in La Porte, IN, which became the family summer home for their children and grandchildren. Winters were spent in Naples, FL where she kept in touch with the many friends she made from nursing school, and the many friends in the St. Moritz condo complex where she stayed.

Dolores’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the values she instilled—love of family, resilience, faith, and being present, as she was for the many activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A Wake and Catholic Mass, Celebration of a Life well lived will be held on October 2, 2026 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 8404 S Cass Ave, Darien at 10:00 a.m., with Mass to begin at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls or in support of the Mercy Home Sunday Mass which Dee watched/listened to every Sunday since Covid; https://www.mercyhome.org/sunday-mass/ .
