Lee Ann Gaal (nee Bruno) Age 68, of New Lenox, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 8, 2022, surrounded by family after a 25-year battle with cancer. Lee was born in Chicago to the late Ameletto and Elizabeth (nee Walter) Bruno. Beloved wife of Louis J. Gaal Jr (retired CPD); loving mother of Marie (Leland) Short, Jaclyn (Michael) Kashirsky, and Louis John Gaal III; cherished grandmother of Michael and Lily Short, and Chase and Austin Kashirsky; dear sister of Sr. Susan Bruno, O.S.F., Elizabeth (Gerry) Richard, the late Leonard Bruno, the late Michael Bruno, and Mary Therese (Thomas) Schwarz; loved aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Lee was a teacher for Chicago Public Schools for over 25 years. Memorials in Lee’s name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 3pm – 9pm. Funeral services Friday, May 13, 2022, with prayers at the funeral home at 10:15am to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lockport, IL for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment Private.



George R. Vanderschoot, Retired CPD, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, Age 84, of New Lenox formerly of the Beverly area, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 6, 2022, surrounded by his family. George was born in Oak Park, IL to the late Herman and Frances (nee Lumkes) Vanderschoot. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 49 years, Carol (nee Ryan) Vanderschoot; children, Lisa (Mike) Janosek, George (Sheri) Vanderschoot and Shannon (Dave) Jeglinski; cherished grandfather of Matthew, Devin, Cailey and Delaney Janosek, Georgie Vanderschoot, Lauren, Anna Mae and Savannah Jeglinski; dear brother of the late Donna (the late Hill) Hase and Gerard (Deborah) Vanderschoot; dearest brother-in-law to James (the late Cozy) Ryan, the late Michael (Florence) Ryan, Robert (Mary Kay) Ryan, Diane (Kurt) Gifford, the late Janet Mclaughlin, Richard Ryan, the late Jacqueline Oakes, Joe Ryan, and Tom (Beth) Ryan. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Frances Rd. New Lenox, IL on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 4pm – 9pm. EAP Hours of Operation and After-Hours Service Normal office hours for the Professional Counseling Division/ Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is Mon-Fri, 0900-1700 hours. This is inclusive of after-hours appointments. The EAP staff can be reached at 312-743-0378 or Pax 0578. After normal office hours, a contracted answering service will receive all calls coming into the EAP office from their bell number only. The answering service is not accessible from dialing EAP’s pax number. If you need an EAP staff member to call you back right away, instead of waiting for a return call the next business day during normal office hours, ensure you indicate your preference to the call taker. An on-call EAP clinician, Alcohol & Substance Abuse counselor and Peer Support member is always available 24/7. The answering service will notify the respective on-call EAP personnel of your request for a call back. If you are unable to reach the answering service or you have not received a return phone call in a timely manner from an on-call EAP personnel, department members are encouraged to contact CPIC at (312) 745-6300 or Pax 0100. SPECIAL EVENT!

Special Olympics Illinois is seeking volunteer runners (active or retired) to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run on 20 May 2022 from 0630-1200 hours. Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers will run the 3-mile route kicking off the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games. The route will begin at the Eternal Flame Monument at Soldier Field and follow the lakefront path to end at Navy Pier. The route is 3.1 miles in length. All runners must be a sworn member of law enforcement, and must be able to maintain a 12 minute/mile pace for the entire 3.1 mile route. There will not be an opportunity to fall back during this Torch Run.
