Areanah Makayla Preston, Police Officer of the Chicago Police Department, passed away in the line of duty on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at the age of 24. A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 16th, 2023 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn. A Funeral Service will begin on Wednesday May 17th, 2023 at 10:00am at Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 w. 95th Street, Chicago 60628. Interment Lincoln Cemetery Chicago, IL. Joseph B. Kennedy, loving husband of 64 years of the late Susan McDougall Kennedy, died on May 6th, 2023, at the age of 93. Beloved father of Karen (James) White, Cam (Gail) Kennedy, Kelly (Michael) Mathias, and Terry (Lori) Kennedy. Cherished grandfather of Sean (Katlyn), Michelle (Adam), Madeline, Thomas, Joseph (Brittany), Patrick, and Jack (Gimena). Devoted great grandfather of Campbell and Hamilton. Joseph was also dearly loved by his nieces, nephews, and many friends, both old and new. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Chicago with his family and began his life of service as a young man. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Midway and then returned to Chicago to join the CPD. Joseph was a dedicated juvenile officer and respected member of the Chicago Policemen's Pension Board before retiring to Las Vegas to start another career in security at Bally's. Joseph and his beloved wife, Susan, shared a beautiful life, traveling the world together and cherishing their time with family and friends. Joseph was known and loved for his sense of humor and love of life. He showed all what it means to be a great and loyal friend. He will be dearly missed. Joseph's legacy of love, laughter, and treasured memories will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known him. Family and friends to gather Friday, May 19th for an 11 AM memorial mass at St. Mary Immaculate Church, 15629 Rte. 59, Plainfield, IL. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at Mistwood Golf Club, 1700 W. Renwick Rd., Romeoville, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, www.justgiving.com/fundraising/joseph-kennedy11. SPECIAL EVENT MEMORIAL ROLL CALL!

007th District will be having an outdoor Memorial Roll Call on Friday, 19 May 2023, from 1200-1300 hours, for Officer Thomas Wortham IV #6181-E.O.W. 19 May 2010. This event will be held at the Gold Star Families Memorial Park on N. Harbor Drive. Please contact P.O. Guerrero or Sgt. SPECIAL EVENT!



The Graduation Ceremony for Recruit Class 22-6, 22-7, and 22-8 as well as the Promotion Ceremony for recently promoted Command Staff, Sergeants (14 Nov 22-16 Dec 22), Detectives (17 Oct 22-25 Nov 22) and Field Training Officers (11 Oct 22-20 Oct 22) will be held in the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, 600 East Grand Avenue, on Monday, 05 June 2023 at 1000 hours. Please reference AMC message #218575 regarding Personal Appearance at Department sponsored public ceremonial events. Members who wish to participate in any Department sponsored public ceremonial events; including but not limited to: promotions, graduations and awards ceremonies must be clean shaven regardless of any written approval from the Medical Administrator permitting the wearing of a beard. The uniform of the day will be the Class A dress uniform (Wool round-crown hat without band, wool blouse, long sleeve shirt, necktie, tie bar, wool pants, and shined black dress shoes). All members participating in the ceremony are to report at 0600 on Monday, 05 June 2023. Due to the large number of celebrants and a limited capacity at Navy Pier, two (2) tickets will be issued per celebrant. Report to the Operations section of the Training Division from 22 May 23-02 Jun 23 between the hours of 0500 and 1600 to be issued your tickets. All participants MUST notify their unit of assignment and the Training and Support Group of their intention to attend. Notification to the Training and Support Group can be made at Academy@chicagopolice.org or at 312-746-8315.

Our monthly luncheon this month is on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the EAGLE BUFFET AT CASINO ARIZONA, 524 N. 92nd St, Scottsdale, AZ 85256, right off the 101 & 202 at McKellips. The buffet does not open until 11:00 AM. We will check-in at 11:00 AM. Stay in the right line, and please identify yourself that you are with the CPD AZ Retiree Luncheon group. Laura Peterson, the food service manager, is our contact person. She is doing a great job to accommodate our group. They will try to get us through the line and be seated quickly. We will be in the rear room if it is available. We will be trying to do the luncheons on THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH.
