An off-duty Chicago police officer was killed in a crash in Oak Lawn Sunday morning. The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified the officer as 35-year-old Edwin Espinoza. The accident happened around 8 a.m. near 95th Street and Harlem Avenue after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Espinoza was a probationary officer with one-year on the job.

Auburn Cemetery. Born in Canton, China, Sue grew up in Hong Kong during the challenging years of Japanese occupation, while embracing resilience and determination. Her life took a beautiful turn when she married the love of her life, and together they embarked on a journey to the United States. A devoted matriarch, she leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her four cherished sons, eight adoring grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Her life's narrative is woven with threads of courage and ambition. At the age of 25, she honed her craft under the guidance of a skilled goldsmith, and by 27, she fearlessly opened her own storefront. For an incredible 65 years, she became a renowned goldsmith and a revered community leader, leaving an indelible mark on those she touched. Beyond her professional achievements, she found joy in the company of her dearest friends and the exploration of new horizons. Her love for travel was surpassed only by her deep affection for family. Her warm heart and unwavering devotion created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Daniel L. Guiney, age 83, passed away on November 5 after suffering a stroke a week prior. Dan lived a life of service in the U.S. Navy, Chicago Police Department and Illinois Attorney General’s office, where he served as a tireless advocate for crime victims with disabilities. He is survived by his loving son Daniel (Mary) McGuinness, beloved grandson Seamus, devoted daughter Kelley Guiney and his dear sisters, brother-in-law, nieces and nephew. His compassion, wisdom, humor, and integrity were an inspiration to all who knew him. An Irish wake will be held on Friday, December 15th from 4 to 8 pm at Caddie's Pub at Links of Carillon, 21200 W. South Carillon Drive, Plainfield, IL 60544. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 12:45 pm at Old St Pat's church, 700 West Adams Street, Chicago, 60661. EAP Hours of Operation and After-Hours Service!

Normal office hours for the Professional Counseling Division/ Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is Mon-Fri, 0900-1700 hours. This is inclusive of after-hours appointments. The EAP staff can be reached at 312-743-0378 or Pax 0578. After normal office hours, a contracted answering service will receive all calls coming into the EAP office from their bell number only. The answering service is not accessible by dialing EAP’s pax number. If you need an EAP staff member to call you back right away, instead of waiting for a return call the next business day during normal office hours, ensure you indicate your preference to the call taker. An on-call EAP clinician, Alcohol & Substance Abuse counselor and Peer Support member is always available 24/7. The answering service will notify the respective on-call EAP personnel of your request for a call back. If you are unable to reach the answering service or you have not received a return phone call in a timely manner from an on-call EAP personnel, department members are encouraged to contact CPIC at 312)- 745-6300 or Pax 0100.
