Ronald Noel Szech, 81, of Chicago, passed away July 21. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Catherine Szech, his sister Dolores Pokrovac and his brother Stephen (Sonny) Szech. Ron is survived by his twin sister Carol Szaroletta; his two children, Ronald C. Szech and Jean Deven (Shawn Douglass); granddaughter Tera Bonaccorso (Joe); great-granddaughter Avery; and by his ex-wife and life-long friend, Rose Ann Szech. He lived his entire life in Chicago. He began working at 14 years old as a soda jerk on Broadway, apprenticed and worked as a locksmith on Clark Street, and honed his love of precision as a tool and die maker. Ron retired after 23 years of distinguished service as an officer with the Chicago Police Department serving the 20th district. He served six months on active duty with the U.S. Army Reserves at Ft. Riley, Kansas, before being transferred to the Army National Guard of Illinois where he served for 5 years. Ron was a master of things mechanical. His family and friends benefitted from the washing machines, clocks, locks, kitchen mixers, lawn mowers, snow blowers, and outboard motors that he restored to good working order. He loved spending time with his family -- the many fishing trips to Canada where he and his young family would cook their catch on a remote shoreline; a vacation with his granddaughter to Disney’s Animal Kingdom; and a visit with his great-granddaughter where he was happy to see her playing with a toy screwdriver. Via Facebook he maintained an active interest in his many nieces and nephews and their families. Ron made lasting friendships with his colleagues and partners from the Chicago Police Department. He treasured hunting and hanging out at camp with friends in Ontonagon, Michigan. He enjoyed a beer with the gang at Paterno's and attending Polish American Police Association gatherings. Ron found great pleasure in helping others, staying busy, and sharing his knowledge. He will be deeply missed. Family and friends will gather for a memorial visitation for Ron on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. For more information, please call Malec & Sons Funeral Home at 773-774-4100. Thank you. Ronald Szech Obituary - Chicago, IL (dignitymemorial.com)
