Kathleen Dore, aged 72, passed away on October 9, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ. Kathy dedicated her life to serving her community. Kathy’s career spanned 27 years with the Chicago Police Department where she earned numerous honorable mentions and complimentary letters. Additionally, she served as President of the Lesbian and Gay Police Association, advocating for equal rights within the organization. In retirement, Kathy worked as a ride-share driver, allowing her to continue to connect with numerous people. Her interests included coin collecting and cooking, activities that allowed her to spend time with her friends. Kathy is survived by her son Chris, daughter-in-law Dawn, grandsons Connor and Logan Jannick, and her brothers Edward, Joseph, and Robert Dore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Margaret Dore. The family has organized an online memorial where those who knew Kathy can share stories and pay tribute to her remarkable life. Jean Ann Moore, age 94, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 1, 1930. Jean graduated from Harper High School. On August 5, 1950 Jean married Owen R. Moore and spent a loving 45 years together. She had a passion for sewing, fishing, and spending time with her family. She was survived by her children: Debra retired CPD (Gary) Szparkowski, Doreen Moore (Mike Bratta), Dale (Dan) Lopez; loving grandmother to: Heather Kristopher (Jess), Matthew (Samantha) Tyler; beloved Great Grandmother to Eleanora and Thaddeus. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Owen R Moore, brother Donald (Lee) Krause, sister Marie (Jim) Englehart, and grandchildren Cynthia Lynn Szparkowski and Robert Pierce. In lieu of flowers, dentations can be made in honor of Jean Moore to Shriners Children Hospital: Ways to Give | Shriners Children’s Chicago. Kim Petrisha, December 15, 1954 — October 26, 2024, Kim Petrisha, 69, lifelong resident of Burnham, IL, died Oct. 26 at home, with hospice. Kim is preceded in death by daughter Cheyanne, husband Junior Price, mother and father Shirley Blackburn Petrisha and John Petrisha. She is survived by son Austin (Aimee) Simnick, in-laws Linda Ridgeway Butt and John Price, care-giver Patrick Sullivan, an aunt, Jane Curry Blackburn, cousins Harry Blackburn, Michael Blackburn, Camille Johnson, James Leschinsky, Carmen Grigg, members of the Stalmack family, and many other cousins and friends. Kim chose law enforcement as her career, serving as a police officer with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. She worked in various divisions including Field Operations and Special Investigations. One of her favorite assignments was as a K-9 officer with her German Shepherd Ken. Kim’s love of animals always played a large part in her personal life. Along with caring for her own dogs, she volunteered with various non-profit, no-kill dog rescue organizations, raising money as well as fostering and rehoming. Kim also was a loyal supporter of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, riding each year in what is described as the world’s largest motorcycle parade. She often rode in various other benefit events, and had a major interest in motorcycle safety, posting safety videos and messages on her Facebook page. Raised in a family with strong historical and public service ties to Burnham, Chicago, and Cook County, Kim grew up caring about her Village. She herself served as a trustee in later life. Kim’s grandfather, Art Blackburn, who officially began his public service career in 1938 as Burnham police chief, was simultaneously police chief, fire chief and Village president in the 1950s. Kim’s mother, Shirley Blackburn Petrisha, who worked for the Cook County Board of Elections, was a Burnham trustee for 20 years and served on the Burnham School Board. The Senior Center on South Manistee is named in her honor. John Petrisha, Kim’s father, also served as Village trustee, as did members of the Stalmack family. Her uncle Harry Blackburn served as a Chicago police officer for 38 ½ years, retiring as a police commander. Blackburn Park, on South Bensley, is named in memory of Kim’s uncle, Archie, who was killed fighting in the Pacific during WWII. Roberto Zavala, age 70, at rest suddenly on October 16, 2024, of Tampa Florida formerly of the northwest side of Chicago. Beloved husband of Gladys (nee Santana) for 51 years. Loving father of Roberto Daniel Zavala and Victor (Stephanie) Zavala. Cherished grandfather of Alina, Abby and Olivia. Loving son of the late Ramon and the late Carmen Zavala. Dearest brother of Raymond (Janet) Zavala. Fond uncle, cousin and friend to many. Roberto retired as Chief of Patrol with the Chicago Police Department for 33 years. Visitation for Roberto will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. Norridge, Il. 60706. A second visitation will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 9:00 am until time of funeral service at 10:00 am at Armitage Baptist Church 2451 N Kedzie Blvd, Chicago, IL 60647. SPECIAL EVENT!

The Special Activities Section is once again coordinating efforts for the Police Department’s involvement in “Chicago Gives” Toy Drive 2024. This year, we are requesting that each District participate by giving at least 5 unwrapped gifts and each Unit participate by giving at least 1 unwrapped gift. Gifts should be for ages infant to 14 years old. Please see AMC 314622 attachment for gift guidance. Help us make the holiday brighter for children in need. Last year, The Chicago Police Department donated approximately 1,000 gifts to Domestic Violence Shelters across the city. Please deliver your donations to the Special Activities Section, 4th Floor, SW of Public Safety Headquarters no later than 1500 hours on 03 December 2024. The Gold Star and Gold Badge Family Members will be wrapping your gifts on Friday, 06 December 2024 in the Headquarters Multi-Purpose Room.
